Pet Semaraty 2 Question
Guys,
Given I on a whole agree with the opinions of most people in this forum, I'm asking for some second opinions on Pet Sematary 2. I saw the film when it came out, and liked it a lot, and much better than the first, but that was many years ago so I am unsure whether it was due to poor taste (although at that point in time, my favorite film was John Carpenter's The Thing. And it still is). I'm thinking of buying it, but ever single review I read says it sucks beyond belief. One even said of the original Pet Sematary: - "Pet Sematary was often intelligent and truly scary"; - "a chilling movie that took a cold, hard look at obsessive love and the nature of evil" (DVD Verdict). An irritating movie that takes a cold hard look at the nature of stupidity, they mean. The stupidity of Pet Sematary annoys the hell out of me. I mean the vet was university educated and would have to be reasonably intelligent to have graduated. He should have fucking well figured that it was a bad idea to bring anything back when the cat came back evil and smelled bad. And the interstate in front of his house he was warned of, and had one near miss with his kid? Put a fucking fence up, you stupid shit. Or put the kid on a leash. From what I recall, PS2 did not annoy me in this stupid plot sense, and I enjoyed it. But whenever I consider buying the dvd, I check up some reviews to refresh my mind on the film, I just see a barrage of bad, bad, bad, reviews. Am I the only one who liked this film, and didn't like PS1??? |

Sorry folks but I do think that PS 1 is way better than its sequel, the first one is an underrated horror gem. The second was not that bad, entertaining but not good. My opinion, of course!

A person would have to be a true Stephen King fan to understand Pet Sematary. The movie is unique in a way that it is almost true to the book. You have to understand every scene of the movie and where it orginates. As you can tell, I'm a Stephen King fanatic. Pet Sematary 2 was a entertaining film as well. PS 1 had it's following and PS2 has it's following. I myself, am a fan of both Pet Sematary 1 and 2. Diabolical Dominion had reported that there may be a Pet Sematary 3. Take that morsel with a grain os salt for now.

Ah, good, so there are other people who actually like PS2.
Regarding PS1, I've spoken to someone about it who is a Stephen King fan, and he liked the book much better, but when I asked him if the book made any more sense/gave better motiviation for all the stupidity of the lead, he said, "Ah, no. If that annoyed you in the film, the book wouldn't help any". I guess I am pretty easily distracted from films once there are too many things in it that don't add up. Same reason I really don't like the original version of Exorcist (ie, we see Reagan talking all cutesy to her mum in bed, then next time we see reagan, she is pissing on the carpet in front of her moms friends, and her mom goes "Oh she hasn't been well, she's on medication" - (BZZZZZZT - wrong answer)). I actually fell asleep watching it the first time, as I started loosing interest. |

napalm68,
I'm pleased that you like Pet Sematary 2 as well. I often heard it refered to as as a mean spirited movie. I will say this, if Pet Sematary 2 has to a mean movie to be good then, that is one mean sum a bitch of a movie and I love it. What I meant as far as the 1st goes, that had to be the one Stephen King movie that was pretty much true to the book (with the exception of Missy hanging herself). |

we'll have to give KING a cylindrical tomb to facilitate the coffins rolling motion
sorry kids, but pet sematary 2 sucks big dirty ass.
the original was very close to the book and well executed. Very good King movie (which you have to understand is an american mainstream movie aimed at narcotized sheep). the sequel was just an excuse to capitalize on the first. none of the interesting avenues presented by the first are explored and its pretty much a rehash of the original, except that it makes even LESS sense. why the fuck would the "zombie dad" be cognitive enought to play it straight and then turn into a nutbag that kills? the original makes it clear that this would not happen. toss in the terminator 2 kid and you've got a vacant as fuck movie that some hollywood fuck-hole passes off as horror movie. i don't just dislike movies like this, they piss me off and i take it personally. ok, so this doesn't end up being JUST a total shit-spray on your goober film, i will say that i did enjoy the rabbit carcasses.

As for the plot in Pet Semetary, I think that when a man loses a family-member in that fashion, the trauma of it will certainly result in illogical actions. I think that is what King wants to portray in the book and by extension in the movie. The flaw of logic is hence there for a reason. I think the movie is great. Moody, well-played and scary with a message. The sequel is in my opinion one of the worst follow-up's to ever grace the screen. Horrible casting, mediocre script and an overall dull feeling to it. But that's just my opinion. Just curious, if you're getting provoked by the lack of logic in movies why watch horror-films at all?
