Flatliners Remake

Hey! Hey, Fellatio! Got a match? Well, I do! Your face and my ass! Your breath made of buffalo farts!

Quote:
Sony is looking to update the 1990 Joel Schumacher thriller Flatliners, apparently undeterred by the disturbing death throes that have greeted other recent remakes who have tried bringing things back from the other side. It’s sort of like how, in the original Flatliners, Kiefer Sutherland continued to encourage his fellow medical students to keep up their experiments with near-death experiences, despite his repeatedly getting kicked in the face by a ghost kid—in this metaphor, the box-office returns of Conan The Barbarian and Fright Night representing, obviously, getting the shit kicked out of you by a ghost. Similarly unshaken, Sony has hired Source Code writer Ben Ripley to draft a “contemporary reimagining” of the story, which presumably means that the modern stand-in for William Baldwin ‘s playboy character will be haunted by all the women he sexted on Twitter or something. Hey, here’s another thing to consider: A Flatliners redux officially blazes a trail toward eventually remaking the movies of the 1990s, which is a whole new decade of resources to be strip-mined and reassembled that should keep the industry running for at least another five years or so.
The original is a very weird flick. It works very well in many parts, but it gets a little weepy in others. I'm curious about a remake, but i love the original cast.

Anything with Julia Roberts being remade without Julia Roberts is a step in the right direction in my book.

I am a big fan of the original, but am surprised that this will be remade.

Flatliners is one of my favorite films, the whole mystery of what is on the other side has both intrigued & terrified me. I love the cast of the original but I don't feel a remake is needed.

I love the idea of the original, but the sins that haunted everyone were pretty lame. It could have been much darker and meaner. Not that the remake will correct those mistakes.

I'm proud to say that the original is the only movie I own with Julia Roberts. Remaking anything doesn't even phase me anymore, I will continue to stay away from them until they all die.

You're not alone. It's the only movie that I own with her as well.

The first film worked on many levels. I'll be interested to see how this one fares as a remake, but the chances of it being as good (or better) are quite slim, judging on the success of recent horror remakes.

Dude... don't diss Julia;
Erin Brockovich kicks ass.
Say whatever you want, I stand by it.

Flatliners is the first remake of a film that was made after I became "of age". That means roughly 16 years old. And it was NEVER that good of a film to begin with.

Is there room for improvement?

Hell yeah.

Do I think that it'll be improved?

Hell no!

Why?

Because Hollywood nowadays can't get ANYTHING right.

Nuff said.

I never said it's the only movie I've seen, just the only one I own or can stand. Guess I didn't include the "can stand" before.

EB was alright, but I'd lose my man card if I owned it. I also don't hate the Oceans series, but I do think I hate Julia, sorry. If she would've busted out the tits in Pretty Woman I would have a totally different world view now, but she didn't, still hasn't, scary teeth, fuck her!

I can see it now--in a few years they'll be remaking movies before the original even hits theaters.
