Unhinged (1982)

I was wondering how many other people have seen this film.....

I first saw it three years ago....and liked very much
I think what got me to buy it was the PREVIOUSLY BANNED sticker on the cover.....I later found out it was a video Nasty.

I like everything about the film.....weird

What a shocking ending too!

Anyone else like to comment on this movie?

It's a guilty (VERY guilty) pleasure of mine. I can't defend the film for it truly is a steaming pile of freshly pinched loaf, but it's at least somewhat entertaining.

Again, though, this is one film that doesn't deserve it's status as a "Video Nasty". It really isn't that bad. And the gore/blood that IS in the film isn't very convincing.

It goes well with beer and bongs though.

It's a guilty pleasure of mine...the film really sucks, but the ending is pretty nasty, and makes up for a lot of what came before. Most people despise it, but I didn't think it was as bad as many people make it out to be. People embrace Pieces for its shittiness (and wild ending), so I'm not sure why this hasn't been as well.

I love Unhinged. It has charm. I only watch it maybe once a year, a great one to view sick in bed with a severe head cold. With it's vague but realistic "pot talk" you can tell it was made by real stoners...if you can't tell by the director's tv interview on the dvd, lol.
It's been awhile since I've seen it, but timeless standouts for me were the autumn forest sickle murder and the exposure of the locked guest house. They were just classic.
I treasure my original dvd (from Liberty?) with the mini-poster insert. The Brentwood re-press has a sloppy cheesy menu and doesn't even include the still gallery. But the transfers are identical, which are ok, but I'd love to see an improved release. Bring on the blu-ray!!

I enjoyed the DVD also. If I remember it said it was banned in the UK but I don't think it mentioned anything about North America and I don't think it ever came out on VHS (at least in North America)

Don Gronquist, the director, opened a restaurant in Oregon around 2005 I think called "souper soups and dazzle dogs" but it did not last long. I wanted to ask him questions about the movie but cannot seem to find his email address.

It was sad to see it was banned because I am sure it prevented him from developing a career directing movies.

A disc with a decent transfer of the film would be nice.

Count me in as another Unhinged fan...sure, it drags in parts and the body count is low, but the deaths that do occur are pretty brutal...

I'm sooooooooo glad I'm not the only major fan of this film.....

I just found out that the Pitcock Mansion (the Unhinged house) is now a protected property under Oregon State Law.....they give tours of it apparentley

Does anyone else like Janet Penner in this film....I think she was great.

Good flick. I've only watched it once, and may need to revisit. I remember liking it, but it wasn't something I considered a favorite by any means.

It's kinda slow, but the overall feel is pretty creepy and that's a plus in my book.

This will be getting a UK DVD release courtesy of 88 Films:

At 88 Films we wanted to release Unhinged on BluRay but, sadly, the elements are not there. However, the forthcoming DVD of Unhinged will mark the launch of 88s new dedication to slasher cinema from the golden era of the 1980s. This will be the best looking print of the film ever, and it will also come with a brand new commentary from Gronquist himself, who will doubtlessly speak a little about the UK controversy. Forget previous DVDs of this oldie - this is going to be the finest the film has ever looked with a transfer approved by Gronquist himself. And there will also be a booklet by some guy called Calum Waddell.

As long as Charles Band isn't involved in anything, I'm in.

my thoughts too. As others have said the body count is rather brutal (the last being somewhat quite effective). Still got the old DVD from 2005 (BCI/Eclipse), it'll be interesting to see what they do with it
