Any idea when the rights to all the old Empire Pictures movies revert back to Charles Band. MGM can't have the rights forever? Band said he plans to release special editions of his older works when he gets rights back.

I thought MGM just outright owned them. Wikipedia shows where he sold the company in 1988, and then started Full Moon.

Empire was basically broke in 1988.

But of course, these things can change and it's hard to ever be 100% sure. I thought Anchor Bay owned the old New World library of films, but they all reverted to another company.

See post #55.

So it seems Re-Animator was part of the Lakeshore library.

Ugh, good news and bad news.

Hopefully Image will do a better job than most of the Lakeshore Blu-ray releases they've done. The vast majority of them have had poor to just okay transfers.

Hm. The it's nice to have a choice - I guess I'll buy whichever of the UK or US release has the better picture.

I'm looking forward to the Basket Case trilogy as well - I don't have those yet.

True. With Anchor Bay we wouldn't have gotten all the extras, but with Image the transfer is more likely to suck.

$9.98? That confirms that this will continue the suckiness. No choice now but to import this from the motherland.

That's for the dvd. The blu-ray is $12.58 , but I see your point. Seems a little cheap.
