Thoughts on Supernatural Season 7 (potential spoiler alert!)

So has anybody been keeping up with the Winchesters lately? After a so-so season last year, I think Supernatural has returned with a vengeance! Granted, we're only 3 episodes in so far, but I'm loving the new "Lovecraftian" direction. With the angels effectively wiped out and the emergence of the Old Ones/Leviathans as an unkillable force to be reckoned with, The boys have never been in so much danger! Also, the subplot about Sam's hallucinations is being handled really well. I love how they brought back Lucifer for episode 2. All in all, the show is better than ever and after the amazing season premiere I thought to myself that it's hard to believe that the show is in it's seventh year. Buffy was WELL past it's prime by this point, but Supernatural seems to have found it's second wind.

Thoughts?

I haven't watched Friday's episode yet, but the only thing that I do miss is Castiel (Misha Collins), but I think that this will top the 6th Season, but I don't care, because I'm such a huge fan of Supernatural, the stories and plots could be dumb, and I wouldn't care.

In hindsight, I think that everything that happened in Season 6 happened merely to tie up all of the loose ends from the Apocalypse storyline so that we could get to this point. Season 6 was okay, but it was more like two short seasons wrapped into one (the first being all about Sam's soul, the second being about The Mother) and I believe that that's what killed it's effectiveness. But still, Season 6 seemed less like Season 6 to me and more like a second Season 1 where they tried to start everything from scratch. And as good as Season 1 was, it wasn't NEARLY as good as any of the others that followed it, and I think that was the level it played at. I enjoyed Supernatural last year, but I wasn't exactly dying to see it week after week as I was with Seasons 3-5. Season 7 is like that again.

Have you heard if Mischa is gone for good? I'd be surprised if he was given how popular he's become. He was never fully a regular member of the cast anyways. He was often gone for a good 4 or 5 episodes at a stretch, so so far nothing has really changed in that regard.

I'm with both of you. I was in the camp of having it end after the 5th season, since it would end on such a high note. And after the beginning of last season, I was more in that camp. Now it's a different story. When it comes down to it, I love these characters and want to keep watching them for years to come. It sounds funny, but it's my comfort show. I love when it's on. Not many shows in recent years have felt that way for me.

Misha was on the first 2 episodes, but it has been mentioned that he's no longer a series regular, but I have looked at IMDB.com, and so far he's in no more episodes, but I hope they bring him back, if only occasionally, like Bobby Singer "Jim Beaver."

I'm such a huge fan of Supernatural, that when I purchased Season 6 on Blu-Ray, I upgraded Seasons 1-5 on Blu-Ray, and sold my DVD's of Seasons 1-5, and one of my cat's name is SamDean Winchester. The funny thing is my cat was born on March 1, 2006, the same day as Jensen's birthday.

I have the feeling that he'll be back as the head Leviathan. We'll just have to wait and see.

The rumor I've heard is that the current story arc is set to run through to the end of Season 8, so we have at least another year ahead of us.

That's awesome! Like I said, my favorite show in years!

My friend made a comment to me after this past episode that Dean was inconsistent and he was right. He killed Amy but his morals are all over the place, since he has let things go before. I'm sure they are setting this up for later. It could also have ramifications with Sam.

BTW: The actress is that episode was Jewel Staite from Firefly and her character was named Amy Pond, which is the name of Dr. Who's companion.

The more that I think about it, the more I think that Dean's actions are consistent with somebody who has given up all hope: the hope that he'll ever have a normal life, the hope that Sam will ever be whole again, and pretty much all else that has happened to him since the beginning. I think losing Castiel and then having to face a race of unstoppable leviathans was the straw that broke the camel's back. Amy is an extension of that, he doesn't have faith that she'll be able to control her monster side. Just think about the message he left for Bobby at the end of episode two a bit. He WANTS to die, and I think that that's basically the reason why he lets the kid go. If it comes to pass (and this would be an awesome end to the series) it would be a death that Dean actually deserved.
