i have no expectations for this one way or the other, but i'm curious to see how it turns out. that's kind of a lackluster reveal, though. we've already seen very similar pictures of Wood, and the other two aren't terribly interesting.

I'm not sure about anybody else, but I'm confused. Is this whole movie shot in POV? Because if it is I think it has a better chance of being adequate, because I don't for one second buy Elijah Wood as a homicidal, pyscho sexual killer.

Just like the Evil Dead remake, colour me excited for this one. Looks like they nailed the core components of the original (the damaged momma's boy) while also making it something new (the setting, class structure).

I don't know if I'm sold on the first person perspective, but it does look quite faithful to the original. I'll check it out for sure.

For me the first person perspective in the remake works since the original is pretty much told through the views of it's main character, despite not physically being shown through Spinell's eyes.

I'm intrigued. Even from the first few shots of the city, it retained the gritty, urban feeling of the original. I still don't know if I'm 100% sold on Elijah Wood (or the 1st person perspective), but so far this seems pretty spot on.

I don't say that often about remakes.

I didn't think it looked gritty at all...and the sleaze didn't feel genuine...kind of felt purposefully thrown in there like all these faux-grindhouse flicks tend to do these days.

However, I think Wood may pull this one off. I actually didn't mind the trailer. I mean, I gotta say...Wood looked like a fuckin' creeper. This flick might be a cool little serial killer surprise.

I'd probably like it 10x better if it didn't retain the Maniac moniker and tried to survive under an original title even though it still borrows heavily on the original film. It looks like there might be enough similarities and differences where this one could have likely been passed off as an homage flick rather than a remake.
