I'm wondering if it's not 20th Century Fox's fault, and not technically MGM's.

They're the ones that handle the transfers/encoding (and distribution) for MGM now. It wouldn't be the first time they've screwed up an MGM release. Remember Ski School? It was labelled to have both a Widescreen and Fullscreen version on the DVD, but only had the Fullscreen.

Maybe not, but it's worth considering.

Each includes the original theatrical trailer, that's it. I really wasn't expecting anything beyond that on these.

Exact technical specifications have't been disclosed yet for the three features but some extras are promised.
When i read that in the press release my hopes went up.

I asked Michael Winner on Twitter whether he was even approached by MGM to provide interviews and/or commentary for Death Wish 2 & 3. He wasn't.

These releases seem like a terribly wasted opportunity. There are a great many fans of these films who would have paid for premium releases (including, of course, an unrated version of 2). I know I would have done.

I read somewhere before that winner is'nt intrested in doing special features for his films. Still there's nothing stopping MGM/Fox doing so without his involvment. Would have been nice for each film to have the canon promo's and an retrospective documentary.

Here's some DW II stuff on youtube.

Wow - great links thanks Marv.

The DW2 on-location report is great! I've always been rather fond of Mr. Winner. I think behind all his bravado actually lies a genuinely funny and self-depreciating man.

Incidentally, he implied on Twitter that he "thinks" he's already recorded special features for the original Death Wish. Perhaps Paramount is planning something after all.

It's true that 20th Century Fox could've botched DW II. But let's not forget the The Burning dvd, which was uncut (and an MGM release distributed by Fox).

To be honest, it doesn't matter if it was MGM or Fox. Bottom line is, somebody done fucked up.

those death wish 2 extra's were interesting, the heated debate one being particularly embarassing, i had forgotten how pathetic peoples views were here in the UK in the early 80's, it's this kind of sensational nonsence that caused such extensive cutting of most films released in the uk within this period.

MGM isn't always the best at getting stuff to reviewers before street date, but I got all three and will be covering them this week.

Review for Death Wish 2 is here.

The only extra is the trailer.

I went to several brick & mortar stores and did not find any of these Death Wish BDs. You know, once upon a time, I could go on release day and find the titles I want. Anymore, if it's not a major studio release of a new film, I'm SOL.
