I thought Grindhouse had the rights to this and were planning on releasing all of their previous released titles on Blu?

Easy pass for me. I still haven't even watched my Grindhouse DVD. I like Fulci but this is mostly a smorgasbord of clips of older, (slightly) better movies. I guess Grindhouse Releasing lost the rights to this one?

Meh, The Grindhouse version was already stacked and I don't see any reason to double dip on this one with so many other good releases coming out.

Looks like there may be a legal dispute forthcoming from Grindhouse Releasing.

I also see that the following quote was deleted by RaroVideo yesterday.

I have removed it from the initial post, since I was unable to find a link for it.

WOW, I remember ZOMBIE had issues where the Italian licensor double sold to BU and SS, then THE VISITOR, now CAT IN THE BRAIN. Sure makes any DVD label weary of doing business with Italian companies.

It's a sad state of affairs. There definitely seems to be some sketchy deal-making going on over there. Pair that with the disproportionately high licensing fees that most of the independent labels seem to have have commented on at one time or another. If this trend continues, we might not see US labels taking chances on Italian films anymore.

Damn, this always sucks. It may be a case where Grindhouse does not have HD or Blu-ray rights, or the rights owners feel the contract is not explicit that Grindhouse does. There's lots and lots of reason there could be disagreement unfortunately. As I recall Zombi 2 was a situation where there were two people claiming ownership and Media Blaster had bought from one and Blue Underground bought from the other.

To this I'll say, "Grindhouse, you snooze you loose." Control of your rights must always be demonstrated by taking actions with them. If a Blu-ray was already out there someone like Raro wouldn't have even been fooled into licensing it (rightly or wrongly) in the first place.

Maybe Vito Corleone is running the outfit that doles out licensing rights over in Italy

So we will not release this title in the US as previously announced. Since we own the 35 mm negative we will nevertheless produce a Blu-ray of this title next year for the European market. Thanks for your support.
