The Funhouse & Slaughter High (Arrow Video) DVD Details & Artwork

THE FUNHOUSE, Hooper’s 1981 chiller about four friends trapped in the titular carnival attraction with a vicious human monster, is coming on region A/B/C Blu-ray only July 18. The disc will sport a brand new 1080p hi-def transfer of the film, and will be fully loaded with special features:

• Audio commentary by FUNHOUSE makeup FX artist Craig Reardon and FINAL DESTINATION creator Jeffrey Reddick
• Audio commentary by producer Derek Power and genre scholar Howard S. Berger
• Audio commentary by Hysteria Lives webmaster/TEENAGE WASTELAND author Justin Kerswell and author Calum Waddell
• “Stuck in the Funhouse” with Hooper
• “Carnage at the Carnival”: Hooper remembers THE FUNHOUSE
• “Miles of Mayhem: Acting in Tobe’s Funhouse” with star Miles Chapin
• “A Trilogy of Terror: The Make-up Madness of Craig Reardon”: the artist recalls his collaborations with Hooper on THE FUNHOUSE, EATEN ALIVE and POLTERGEIST
• “Master Class of Horror”: Mick Garris reflects on Hooper’s career
• Live Q&A with Hooper from San Francisco
• Never-before-seen behind-the scenes-photos from Reardon’s collection
• Four-panel reversible sleeve options with original and newly commissioned artwork
• Double-sided foldout artwork poster
• Collector’s booklet featuring brand new writing on the film by critic and author Kim Newman

Retail price is £27.99.

SLAUGHTER HIGH, in which Munro plays one of a group of former classmates lured to a murderous reunion by a vengeful student they had once tormented, will be on region 0 PAL DVD only July 11. This’ll be the movie’s first time on DVD in the UK, and sports a far more impressive package than Lionsgate’s domestic 2009 disc:

• Audio commentary by co-writer/co-director Mark Ezra, moderated by Kerswell
• Audio commentary by Munro, Waddell and Allan Bryce
• Introduction by Ezra
• “Jesters and Jolts”: Interview with Ezra
• “Lamb to the Slaughter: The Scream Queen Career of Caroline Munro”
• Reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned artwork by Graham Humphreys
• Double-sided foldout artwork poster
• Collector’s booklet featuring brand new writing on the film by author Troy Howarth

Retail price for this one is £15.99. The Arrow team also recently worked with Fango’s editors in creating extras for the special edition of another slasher classic coming later this year; stay tuned for details!

I'll definitely be getting both.

I already have the German DVD of Slaughter High, which has a beautiful transfer...so it will be interesting to see how this one compares. I only wish they were releasing it on Blu-ray, damnit!

Now why can't Universal and Lionsgate respectively do THIS for us in America?

I usually go for Region 1 DVDs, but since Lionsgate fucked us over with the Slaughter High crap-DVD, I'm picking up that one for sure!

I wonder if its too late for Arrow to include the deleted scenes from the tv version of The Funhouse.

Slaughter High has always been a guilty pleasure. I was not impressed with the Lionsgate fullscreen VHS transfer though it was uncut. It would be interesting to know the aspect ratio, uncut status and why one movie gets a Blu-ray release but not the other. Also, has anyone been able to guess the "other slasher classic coming later this year?" I'm thinking maybe Terror Train.

If the coming classic is "Hell Night" or "Prom Night" on a Blu-Ray disc, then I will explode of happiness!
