Slasher Suggestions

I'm looking to watch some good, low budget slasher films that were made in the past ten years. Thinking of doing a feature and want to see what's out. I've seen all the old classics and not-so classics. Looking for something newer.

All I can think of are the first 2 Wrong Turn Films. When I think "slasher" I can't see past 1989. There have been several "homages" made during the last 10 to 15 years, but you're not looking for those, right?

Homages can get really annoying. To be watching a movie and then realize parts are just something from another movie. While something fresh can be hard to come by, it will always beat a nudge and a wink. Slashers do usually follow a formula, but it doesn't seem anybody is really doing it anymore. Hatchet tried but it just felt like a splatter film. No mystery or any real suspense. Looking for that old school feel without all the nostalgia bs.

Listed below are the slashers made in the past 10 years that I have enjoyed (excluding remakes and sequels to 80's franchises). BLOOD NIGHT and HIGH TENSION are incredible.

Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet (2009)
Bloody Murder 2 (2003)
High Tension (2003)
The Hills Run Red (2009)
Nightmare Man (2006)
Shredder (2003)
The Violent Kind (2010)

I've heard good things about The Sleeper, but haven't seen it.

The only modern slashers I really love are the Cold Prey movies. All three are fantastic, surprisingly.

The first is a fantastic atmospheric slasher, the second is a well-done homage to Halloween II and the third is more of a Just Before Dawn/Rituals/backwoods type. I dug the hell out of all of them.

Oops, I missed the part about "low-budget". There are a couple of studio slashers in there. Regardless, if you're a slasher fan, they're all worth checking out.

A few others that I personally loved that are arguably slashers are: Eden Lake, The Lost, and The Dark Hours.

Sam's Lake (2006). Not great but good enough.

Seen some of these. I really enjoyed The Hills Run Red. High Tension was great until the end. Don't think there is any way for me to see Mandy Lane, yet. I don't know why it can't get a release here. I'll check out some of the others I don't think I've seen.

If you have a Blu-Ray player, the UK Blu-Ray is confirmed region free (the special features are in PAL, but the feature is 1080P and would be unaffected) and available on Amazon.com from a number of 3rd party vendors as low as $11.24+shipping ($15.66 for an Amazon fulfillment vendor).

Agreed, but define nostalgia bs. What part is bs?

If your talking lower budget, then maybe check out Madison County. I watched it last night and I enjoyed it. Ending was a little weak, but for the budget I thought they did a really good job.

Also, speaking of Cold Prey, I just bought it and have yet to watch it but have heard great things about it (along with part 2 and 3). However, I can't find part 2 or 3 for sale. I am not region-free so is there another way to check out part 2 and 3?
