Image Entertainment teams up with Sony

http://www.homemediamagazine.com/stu...tainment-20439

"In a major coup, resurgent Image Entertainment Aug. 30 said it has inked a multiyear deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to allow the studio to manufacture and distribute all of its Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases. Separately, Sony agreed to license an undisclosed number of titles to Image for distribution.

Classic titles in the agreement include Sydney Pollack’s Absence of Malice (with Paul Newman and Sally Field), And Justice for All (directed by Norman Jewison and starring Al Pacino), and Adaptation (directed by Spike Jonze, with Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper).

Sony Corp. subsidiary Sony DADC is a major Blu-ray Disc/DVD replication company.

In addition, the deal affords Chatsworth, Calif.-based Image, which has slowly re-emerged from near bankruptcy to near profitability under new ownership and management, access to SPHE’s traditional accounts and non-traditional distribution channels.

“This agreement allows us to take advantage of their state-of-the-art retail systems while retaining control of sales and marketing,” said Image CEO Ted Green. “It also gives us additional quality product to distribute.”"

Not to mention a SE DVD release of Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes Part 2.

I'm wondering if we'll ever get a new DVD or a BD of Ms. 45? Next year is the 30th anniversary. I can't believe it's been over 11 years since Zoe Tamerlis died.

I would love to have Absence of Malice. What a terrific film, though not horror, it really keeps you glued to the screen.

If Image would stop releasing crappy interlaced Blu-rays, I might be enthused by this announcement.

Wouldn't a re-release need to be uncut too? Pretty sure the Image DVD out there now is edited.

It's edited in three places. The two rape scenes at the beginning of the film are slightly trimmed and a killing at the Halloween party shootout at the end of the film is now offscreen. It's also a non-anamorphic transfer. And there are no extras - not even the trailer. At least the LaserDisc included the trailer although it featured the film in 1.33:1 open-matte. The DVD has a fairly nice 1.78:1 transfer, unfortunately non-anamorphic.

Yeah, she was 37 when she died on April 16, 1999. Her ex husband, Robert Lund, dedicated a page in her honor here.

Ms 45 was talked about in the doc on Bad Lieutenant (Zoe wrote and had a role in that as well), but nothing about it coming out, ever.
I recently had my VHS converted to DVD, properly, my first attpemt failed with off-track audio. Compared to the dvd transfer, the VHS is almost too dark to watch in most scenes. I'd love to see this on Blu looking like King of New York and Bad Lieutenant, both of which seem too good to be true quality-wise to me. After years of VHS, dubs and poor dvds, it's just amazing to see some fine details.
