Thats interesting. Can this be done on all Blu ray players? I own a region B Panasonic BD80 and would love to have some of the region A stuff you guys have. Back to English Blu rays, the Hammer Blu rays The Plague of the Zombies and The Reptile are worth a look but are region B. In general though UK shops tend to be quite expensive for more specialist items. HMV seem to always have some sort of perminant sale on but is almost always the more mainstream throwaway releases you could get off Ebay or Amazon for a few quid.

That's the first I've ever heard of a way to bypass the region lock error on a particular blu-ray. I have noticed that the prices of the new Hammer Blu-ray's are very reasonable on Amazon.uk. I can't wait to get "Dracula: Prince of Darkness."

With UK Blus your always better off buying online as the UK retailers almost always sell things at the RRP. Would be good to know if this is the case witg region codes being able to be bypassed by the simple press of a button. I have no region A Blu rays to try out the theory with though.

I have tried a couple of times on region A discs, but seems the return of the living dead blu is a fluke. Doesn't work on the ones I have tried

If you can handle a soldering iron PM me your details and I'll send you a chip you can fit to your BD80 to allow Blu-ray multi-region.

No probs.

You could always get a local tv repair type shop to fit it (takes under an hour), or if you're anywhere near Glasgow I'd do it myself.

I take it you've at least got it multi-region for DVD already?

I asked about this in another thread when I got the ROTLD disc in hopes that all discs were this easy, and all players were region free. It is just a fluke in the authoring that allows this to work on that disc, but unfortunately no others have been found yet.
I'm still glad it works on this one though!

that's the way it is seems like, America has releases that are a hassle for Europeans, and we have titles that make the American version look like crap

Good thing NTSC extras are no problem here, might be more frustrating over in North America with the PAL extras.

don't know if it matters, but the Friday the 13th from Warner has an extra feature.

Yeah the old Sony machines were built to last, not like today. I've been doing region mod's since late '97 and supplied some of the major UK outlets so there's a good chance you actually have one of my chips in your old Sony!

I can send you a remote hack (FOC of course) for the BD80 but it'll only enable multi-region for DVD's, for full Blu-ray multi-region it would need the hardware mod. Just drop me a PM.

Hey thanks!! My old Sony was modified by a company called Triton i think it was called. It was a while ago, maybe 2003. They picked it up via UPS region 2 and returned it a day or so later region free. Think they were based down south somewhere. Im in Derby and there was nowhere local that did this service. Yeah the old Sony was built to last. I think it may outlive my Panny!! It has also survived two house moves and pretty much daily use until I went down the Blu ray route in 2010.
