AMERICAN NIGHTMARE (1983) and DEATH SHIP (1980) from Scorpion 11/6

Scorpion Releasing give Don McBrearty's Canadian-made AMERICAN NIGHTMARE (1983) its domestic DVDebut. A concert pianist searching for his sister slides deeper and deeper into the seedy side of Toronto's, er.... "New York's" strip club underworld. Turns out there's a razor-happy madman loose, slashing up hookers in some sort of convoluted blackmail scheme. A supposedly grimy little endeavor produced by the Wizard of Gore himself that I've somehow never seen.

I seen baby sister. it has 1983 written all over of it. its a tv movie with a hot phoebe cates. typical drama tv movie. but cates looks so hot. think she sleeps with her older sisters boyfriend.. its like between fast times and private school..

According to Scorpion's website, DEATH SHIP contains:

- Brand New 16x9 anamorphic (1:78) widescreen HD master from the original InterPositive
- Isolated music track from the original 3 track Mag sound
- Deleted scene
- Watch this in "Nightmare Theater" format or play feature only.
- "Learn What the Ship is Saying" featurette
- Original trailer
- Region 0
- Also available on BluRay

If memory serves, the UK Nucleus disc was pulled from a 35mm release print, so this transfer should look a lot nicer. No clue who's interviewed in this featurette compared to the import.

I understood the blu-ray is coming on November 6, the same date listed for the DVD. Am I missing something? It always surprises me when horror releases come out so close after Halloween.

That's what I thought too, but the DVD is up for pre-order and the Blu-ray isn't thus far.

Scorpion Releasing's maiden voyage on the hi-def seas is that old video store standby, Alvin Rakoff's DEATH SHIP (1980)! George Kennedy is a retiring boat captain out for one last trip with his replacement and family. Apparently it was one tour too many, as they're crashed into by a mysterious freighter that lures them aboard, only to reveal itself as something more than readily apparent -- this titular vessel is a Nazi prison ship that's been roaming the oceans for victims since the end of the war, and it just found its latest crop. Scripted by exploitation mainstay Jack Hill, this has been labeled by many fans as "THE SHINING on a Boat," which isn't far from the truth. Scorpion give us a new HD transfer, featurette, isolated score and more, which should give this atmospheric outing the reputation boost it deserves.

I have pre-ordered it on DVD and it seems that it will always be release in the beginning of november. If not it isn't the end of the world I have more than enough unwatched movies.

Yeah, it seems only the Blu-ray got pushed back.

my indie store has a copies of the dvd at their ordering distro they'll be carrying it in store so yeah it only is the blu-ray that is delayed.
