Children traumatised when Paranormal 4 shown instead of Madagascar 3 in UK cinema

OOPS. It's not even Halloween yet and already a bunch of UK children have been given the fright of their little lives.

Children were left traumatised when supernatural horror film Paranormal Activity 4 was accidentally screened instead of animated family film Madagascar 3 at a cinema in the UK.

"It opens on the most terrifying scene in the first film - where a body shoots full pelt towards the camera," said parent Natasha Lewis, whose attended the screening with her eight-year-old son.

"It's enough to make grown men jump, so you can imagine the terror in these young faces."

Ms Lewis said almost 25 families fled the theatre after images of a corpse hurtling at the screen frightened the children.

"Everybody just scrambled for the exits, all you could hear were children crying and screaming. Everyone was very upset. I've watched a few horror films in my time but the Paranormal Activity films are the scariest since The Exorcist.

"It was only about two minutes worth of the film but it was enough to scar them for life," she said.

Cineworld cinema in Nottingham blamed a "technical error" on the mix-up and apologised to the families involved.

"We take matters such as this very seriously and are currently working with technicians to ensure this does not happen again," the cinema said.

The theatergoers were given refunds as well as complimentary tickets and were invited to attend a later showing of Madagascar 3 free of charge.

This story was cuter when it was "The Hills Have Eyes Part 2" instead of "The Piglet Movie."

And the same thing with Saw: The Final Chapter! People really need to be careful.

And to the families of the kids and the kids who got traumatized, know I am so sorry what happened.

At least it wasn't a porn movie.

i'd be traumatized too if i paid to see a charmingly funny animated film of some discernible quality and instead was subjected to 90 minutes of footage of empty rooms. yikes!

Traumatized? This story would be more believable if they claimed the kids all fell asleep.

And then the theater offered all families free tickets to the circus.

Perhaps the U.K. theaters are different than the ones in the U.S., but here rated R films have rated PG-13 or R trailers before the film and G films carry trailers for other G films. As a parent, I would know something was amiss after seeing a trailer for "Sinister" or "Seven Psychopaths" after sitting down to watch "Madagascar."

Unfortunately, the later showing of "Madagascar 3" contained the red-band trailer for the upcoming remake of "The Evil Dead." The outraged parents physically ejected the projectionist from the theater.

I'd be much more horrified to go to see Paranormal 4 and end up seeing Madagascar 3. Those CGI films are nearly unwatchable for me. When I watched Shrek it gouged out years of my life through sheer terror.

If the movie doesn't "scar them for life", I'm sure their uptight parents will.

"A corpse hurtling at the screen" is a little dramatic. They're probably already over it.

I agree with CPT HOOK, "scar them for life" is overwrought and far from reality. Yes, it is unfortunate, but using the words "scarred for life" kinda belittles the issues of those who actually ARE scarred for life, such as young people subjected to severe neglect, physical abuse, or molestation.

The children here have had a shock, but they will be fine. I doubt the psychological effects are much worse than taking ball to the face during soccer - the initial reaction is very strong (and the child often cries because of the shock rather than physical pain), but the child does not grow up to be a nervous wreck.

As a consumer, I would of course want compensation, but I think the cinema handled the situation just right by offering refunds plus free tickets and improved control. No need to go overboard.
