Return To Salem's Lot Is Larry Cohen's Worst Movie???
Larry Cohen has made many great movies like
1.IT'S ALIVE 2.GOD TOLD ME TOO 3.IT LIVES AGAIN 4.Q THE WINGED SERPENT 5.THE STUFF 6.IT'S ALIVE III 7.THE AMBULANCE But is return to salems lot really bad and is cohens only movie that isn't an original story...IT just puts a hurting on stephen king and tobe hooper's vision of the original salem's lot let me know what you guys think... |

I was disappointed when it first came out on video that it had nothing to do with King's story, but overtime I've come to enjoy it and feel it's one of his most entertaining movies. Much better than "Island of the Alive", which was made around the same time period. So I guess I completely disagree, especially when you say it isn't an original story. It is. It's the title that's misleading.

I'm with Maybrick...it was disappointing at first but upon repeat viewings, it's actually not that bad...sure beats the Hell out of IT LIVES AGAIN...and THE STUFF wasn't exactly a shot of adrenaline either...

Hated Return To Salem's Lot, much preferred Q-The Winged Serpent, It's Alive and It Lives Again.

Hey Everyone,
I absolutely adore A Return To Salem's Lot. Despite the bad acting from some and quite possibly the worst editing I've seen in a film, it has a really cool atmosphere to it and some of the colors are just gourgeous, in some parts it looks like a euro horror film. This is mainly thanks to the towns that were used in the film like Peacham and Newbury in Vermont. A quick search of the net will reveal that these towns haven't changed much since '87 and they are just as picturesque as when they were shot. There are also some genuinely creepy moments in the film like the kids killing the hobos and when the teenage girl is killed by the three lady vampires. You could certainly do a lot worse that watch A Return To Salem's Lot. LUCIO!!!! ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------Grease Guy : Four pounds of grease...that comes to 63 cents. Homer : Woo Hoo. Bart : Dad, all that bacon cost 27 dollars. Homer : Yeah, but your mom payed for that. Bart : But doesn't she get her money from you. Homer : And I get my money from grease, what's the problem. |

I really liked the movie. Live it to maverick filmmaker Cohen to make something original out of a lame sequel idea. Michael Moriarty gives a fine performance and it's always nice to see Sam Fuller chomping away on a foot long cigar while on a mission to hunt down Nazis. Good movie.

I liked it. Then again, I've yet to see a Cohen movie that I didn't like.

"Full Moon High" is a wacky comedy and very enjoyable. I'm a big Cohen fan but I haven't seen "Return to Salem's Lot". I would say that Larry's worst movie has to be "Wicked Stepmother" starring Bette Davis. It's enjoyably bad on some level because it's such a mess.

I love A Return to Salem's Lot and am anxiously awaiting a DVD release. Don't forget that it also features Tara Reid years before she became a fully licensed drunk prostitute.

I took RETURN TO SALEM'S LOT out from the library this week and my appreciation for it hasn't waned. For the first time, though, I noticed how much extra information is at the top and bottom of the screen: there are strangely no close-up shots to speak of. I cropped the image to 16:9 on my new tv and, wow, the composition of shots are like a thousand times better! Widescreen is definitely the correct aspect ratio for this film. Which begs another question: when the heck is WB going to release the DVD? The only country that I can find that has one is Germany.
edit: I should also take a drive to Newbury Vt sometime soon to check out the shooting location. I really don't know why I haven't before seeing as how it's only about a 2 hour drive away. Maybe for the fall foilage.

"Wicked Stepmother" is Cohen's worst by far - that movie is unwatchable!
