Mario Bava's BARON BLOOD and KIDNAPPED from Kino 12/11!
The next pair of Mario Bava thrillers out of the hi-def gate are BARON BLOOD (1972) and KIDNAPPED (aka RABID DOGS, 1974), courtesy of Kino by way of Redemption (though they're not actually allowed to label them as such for some contractual reason).
A good pair, showing just how versatile Bava Sr. could be. Now bring on TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE!

Awesome! I hope they get Black Sabbath licensed to release in HD as well... and hopefully this time with the alternate English language version.

Baron Blood is my favorite Bava film. I'll buy this.

Arrow's TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE / BAY OF BLOOD is in dire need of contrast / color correction. The blacks all come across as grey and the colors are dull pastels.
I imagine BLACK SABBATH will be coming, since it's also controlled by Alfredo Leone. However, the English track is controlled by MGM, so I doubt that variant will be part of this package. SHOCK is controlled by a different licensor altogether, so I wouldn't bet on seeing it from this deal.

Redemption Films and Kino Lorber team up to give us Mario Bava's BARON BLOOD (1972) on blu! Curious about his ancestors, a student on holiday visits his family's crumbling estate, befriending the castle's restorer Elke Sommer (who wouldn't?) in the process. Goofing around one night, the pair drunkenly read aloud an incantation that can supposedly bring back the centuries-dead Otto von Kleist -- the Baron Blood, nicknamed so for his Vlad the Impaler-esque tendencies. Whoops. The bodies begin piling up as a cloaked maniac relives his gory glory days with anyone trespassing his former abode. Can he be stopped? A strange mixing of Bava's earlier gothics and the then-current giallo trappings that should look great in hi-def. Is this the first death by Iron Maiden on blu ray?

These Bava BD's are fantastic. I watched Black Sunday the other night and it was gorgeous. Just a gothic masterpiece. I just can't believe how beautiful some of these black and white films can look in high definition. I can't wait dor the Universal Monsters boxset..

I haven't picked up any of these Bava releases on Blu yet. Baron Blood will be another great addition.

Mondo Digital BARON BLOOD review:
http://www.mondo-digital.com/baronblood.html It appears that KIDNAPPED has been postponed until an unnamed later date.
