Justin Osbourne from Slashers Designs Art Plagiarism

I mentioned this is the Lifeforce thread since he recently created the new art for the upcoming Scream Factory release but I thought it deserved it's own thread since it's pretty shocking news.

Apparently famous horror artist Justin Osbourn, the creator/ owner of Slasher designs known for their original shirt desgins, album covers, posters, ect. has been proven to be nothing but a fraud, who's original art is nothing but cut and paste jobs.

Here's a quote from his website,

"Our high-quality merchandise designs include Album covers/layouts, Movie posters, T-shirts, Hoodies, Book Covers, Business Cards, Logo design and more.We are not your typical "slap some clip art and a lame font on a shirt and call it done" design company. Endless amount of attention and detail is put into the designs. The designs contain emotion and/or message the client/band is trying to portray, and often tell a story all on there own, thus making them some of the BEST in the industry."

but since then many more example have been found.

Apparently a bunch of bands are furious about this since they paid for an original album cover only to now find out that they include stolen images.

Definite rip off, but I thought that’s what most cover artists do nowadays anyways…jack some image off the net, throw it in Photoshop, tinker with it a bit….BAM!...new deathgrind album cover in 20min.

What did he jack for the Lifeforce cover?

Are any of the companies taking legal action?...Shout!, Fright-Rags, or the companies in which the stolen images are licensed to?

Is it even technically plagiarism though, if he edits the image? I mean, in some of those he's not just copying and pasting...looks like he's drawing added stuff to the image as well.

It also looks like he ripped himself off a few times too...Ha!

Not too sure as news is still fairly new. I know on the link i provided there were a few bands among others pissed about all of this. It definitely is plagiarism, search art plagiarism and you can find lots of info about it. Again it's still fairly new but people are finding that literally everything in his images has been stolen, from skulls in the background, to hands, ect. He has been charging bands and others for original art, when really he has just been photoshopping other artists work.

It looks pretty obvious that the guy was plagiarising stuff. Some of those are more obvious than others, but it's quite apparent in most of them.

I don't really understand why he did it though...it's not like he's an untalented artist in his own right. No original imagination in the brain or something?

Deadlines, the creative process and all.

Some of those examples just defy belief. He's just ripped off original art and then added a few touches and "ta da"!

I really doubt it. Shout said that it was delayed due to some bonus features content. They still display the same artwork on their website too.
