A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection from New Line 10/2
It looks like New Line is finally giving their A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series a blu ray upgrade on 10/2:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ag=cinema09-20 I'm glad I held off from buying the individual discs of the first three! Looks like procrastination pays off again. (10 to 1 odds they still don't make part 5 unrated...)

This will suck balls if they don't put out 4/5 and 6/7 as separate double features. Don't be lame, Warner Bros.

I assume this will be identical to the UK release. I was pretty dissapointed with the transfers of Parts III and IV which had some color issues.

Don't get too excited, the early specs seem to indicate the 5th DVD of special features may be left out

Yeah, with a pre-order price of only $41.99 for 7 films on 4 discs, I'm thinking this is just a barebones dump.
And like has been said, there are serious issues with the transfers of 2-4. I'm passing.

I'm good with a bare bones or re-release of the UK set. Consider me thrilled.

A friend recently picked up the disc of 2/3 and we popped it in briefly -- I thought it looked fine. What are the "serious issues"?

I didn't find too much of a problem with them, but some have complained about them being too dark.

For starters, from Nightmare 2... DVD: ![]() Bluray: ![]() DVD: ![]() Bluray: ![]() For some reason, the picture has gone from a blue hue to a red hue. I prefer the original. Also, based on screencaps from Nightmare 4, and the fact that only a month ago, I saw an actual original 35mm print in a theater, I can confirm that the dark picture depicted on the UK Blu-ray is NOT how the film was presented theatrically. Someone at Warner Bros. fucked up. To hell with the UK Blu-rays, and to hell with the R1 set if it uses the same faulty transfers.

In addition to the darkness, Nightmare 3 on Blu-ray has a few odd color timing issues itself, with color timing changing rapidly from shot-to-shot in some scenes...
![]() ![]() Those color differences are pretty jarring.

Yeah, no kidding. A million-dollar franchise popular the world over and we can't get a halfway decent release. I don't know what's worse: the UK getting a (better?) release more than a year before the U.S. or the fact that the studio is so indifferent. |
