Gary J. Levinson's HELLROLLER (1992) DVD from VHShitfest 11/26/13

"He's got a wheelchair and an attitude... He's turning the streets of L.A. into a morgue!" So someone, somewhere, somehow decided it'd be a good idea to put Gary J. Levinson's Shot-on-Video disasterpiece HELLROLLER (1992) on DVD. And there was much rejoicing. It's the story of a retarded, wheelchair-bound cripple (his mom dropped him as an infant during a sexual assault by Siamese twins) who's had all he can take from the "normals" of society. You see, he's also homeless. Turns out, he's also homicidal. When his caregiver is wasted, his mind finally snaps, and he begins to kill, kill, kill. At least I think that's what's happening. It's hard to tell, really. Stunt casting includes scream queen Michelle Bauer's endless aerobics routine (plus bath), porn star Hyapatia Lee's endless lingerie disco routine (plus shower), a mongoloid murder team of Johnny Legend & Eric Caidin (no bathing or showering), and Mary Woronov as The Aunt.

The guys at VHShitfest love HELLROLLER unconditionally, and have loaded up their DVD release for its 21st Anniversary. They even tracked down the King of the Bums for an interview! Order now and you'll get a copy of the shooting script. I'm not kidding.

Pressed DVD or DVD-R?

If it's DVD, I'm game.

That was the first question out of my mouth, too. Their response:

"Bruce, it's a pressed disc, complete with animated/interactive menus! There's even two Easter eggs hidden on it!"

Excellent! Although now I'm a bit soured by the $5 shipping charge.

Did they say anything about the transfer? Is this the same VHS rip they used for the previous release?

Not sure -- was the last one a VHS rip or did they have access to the master tape?

"a sexual assault by Siamese twins" ???

This sounds like classic cheese! Has anybody ever actually seen it?

Michelle Bauer, Ruth Collins, Elizabeth Kaitan and Mary Woronov are all in it though?! I might have to order it just because of that!!

Edit: Ordered one. I watched some clips on YouTube, and this just looks awesomely bad.

I've seen this one. The synopsis sounds like cheesy fun, but it pretty much sucks: http://splattercritic.com/2011/05/hellroller/

I've seen these guys' vids on JewTube...it doesn't surprise me they cannot distinguish the difference between a factory pressed disc and a burned disc.

I'll stick with a rip I downloaded from CG.

I'm disappointed with the transfer. Whoever ripped HELLROLLER to Youtube had a better copy. Those commentary tracks better be funny.

Yeah, agreed... the transfer is crap. It's just sourced from a poor quality VHS, with a ton of tracking lines.

I can also confirm that it's a DVD-R. No pressed disc here despite what they said.
