THE ABC's OF DEATH
Here is an interesting concept. 26 directors, each one does a short film based on a letter of the alphabet that deals with death in some way. as you might expect this kind of movie is going to be all over the place in terms of style and content.
Some of the segments are visually amazing including Marcel Sarmiento (Deadgirl) segment "D Is for Dogfight", Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani (Amer) segment "O is for Orgasm", others are brutal and bloody - Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes) segment "A Is for Apocalypse", Srdjan Spasojevic (A Serbian Film) segment "R Is for Removed", and Xavier Gens (The Divide) segment "X Is for XXL", and unfortunately a few are just plain terrible, the worst being Ti West (The innkeepers) "M is for Miscarriage". A mixed bag for sure, but i have to admit i was never bored and couldn't wait to see what would come next. This will make a good party movie for horror enthusiasts and may even inspire amateur filmmakers to try a short film of their own. The good outweighs the bad here and there's so much insanity along the way that I'm giving The ABC's Of DEATH an 8 out of 10! |

Yes, an average of 5 minutes each, give or take. Total running time is over 2 hours.

Some of the segments, especially the one from the "Hobo with a shotgun" director, was insanely funny and entertaining. Much more so than most full lenght movies coming out these days

I did not like this at all. I was slightly interested at the start, but honestly this lost me at F and pretty much got worse as it went along. I was dozing off a lot around R and woke up enough at the end to find Z most hateful of all. $12 and 2+ hours later I wish I had done just about anything else.

Watched this one a few weeks ago, and it was 50/50 for me. The ones that were good were pretty good, with a few being exceptionally good (U for Unearthed). But the ones that were bad were abysmally horrible. Each director(s) after being assigned a letter had 5 minutes max runtime and $5000 and complete creative freedom. It's like a mix tape, so everyone is going to get something different out of it depending on their preferences. Unforunately a lot of them go the shock/gross our route which just seems too juvenile.
Here's the run down of what I liked and what sucked. Good A (Nacho Vigalondo) D (Marcel Sarmiento) I (Jorge Michel Grau) J (Yudai Yamaguchi) M (Ti West) N (Banjong Pisanthanakun) O (Bruno Forzani) P (Simon Rumley) T (Lee Hardcastle) U (Ben Wheatley) Y (Jason Eisener) Middle of the Road H (Thomas Cappelen Malling) K (Anders Morgenthaler) L (Timo Tjahjanto) Q (Adam Wingard) X (Xavier Gens) Bad B (Adrián García Bogliano) C (Ernesto Díaz Espinoza) E (Angela Bettis) F (Noboru Iguchi) G (Andrew Traucki) R (Srdjan Spasojevic) S (Jake West) V (Kaare Andrews) W (Jon Schnepp) Z (Yoshihiro Nishimura)

It was an interesting concept that turned out average. The only segements I trulty hated were F is for Fart and G is for Gravity, the majority where just ok. As for the ones I really liked.
A Is for Apocalypse D Is for Dogfight L is for Libido M Is for Miscarriage T Is for Toilet U Is for Unearthed V is for Vagitus W is for WTF X Is for XXL Y Is for Youngbuck

These concept films are really annoying and I just don't care for them. If and when should I find myself watching it better be free. No way I am spending cash on dumb shit like this sorry.

You won't regret that decision. Wish I had thought about it that way.

I hardly ever invest my time in horror anymore, a lot of it has to do with gimmicky stuff like this.

Caught up to this today. It was a mixed bag of course but overall I enjoyed it. Lots of interesting stuff to take in. X Is for XXL (Xavier Gens) was probably my favorite. Although there were some other really good one too.
