Looks like the STRAW HILL remake from 2010, originally titled EXPOSE, has been retitled STALKER and is slated for DVD release from Screen Media on 10/15:

Trailer: http://youtu.be/7l1zCb-w5d4

The trailer looks interesting enough in a DTV slasher way; has anyone seen it yet?

Severin's HOUSE ON STRAW HILL now delayed until 9/10. They swear this is the last time.

This had better be worth it!!! They must have their reasons and dont want to put out a poor release.

I have no problems waiting a few months if it means the release will be top notch, instead of putting out a flawed release.

Talked to David from Severin today on my way home from work and he explained that the STRAW HILL delay is still due to some additional color correction they wanted to perform. Essentially the disc is a composite of multiple scans of multiple prints -- all of which are in rough shape. The bulk is taken from a 35mm theatrical print, complete with nicks, scratches, splices, etc. The color was a bit faded on two reels so they tried to bring it back as much as they could. The sex and violence bits were pulled from the original negative, which is sharper, but plagued with water and mold damage. They've put a lot of work into the disc, and I'm sure people will bitch that it's beat up and not pristine, but honestly that's the only option they have outside of using an old tape master.

As an added-value apology, and to put the film in a little more context, they're including a bonus DVD of their earlier UK documentary BAN THE VIDEO NASTIES. Overall it should be a nice package, and I'm happy to see STRAW HILL finally gets its day on disc.

Thanks Bruce. I echo the sentiment that a company taking the time to do the best they can with with a release is the way to go. I will pay whatever price for Staw Hill without scrutiny. This is not just another release, it will be an event.

Also, some news from Fangoria about the bonus disc on STRAW HILL, which I told you guys about a week early, 'cept I got the doc title wrong, haha. Didn't know it was supposed to be an exclusive Fango scoop!

http://www.fangoria.com/new/exclusiv...se-blu-raydvd/

Quote:
The Udo Kier-starrer HOUSE ON STRAW HILL was once condemned as a “video nasty” in its home country of Britain, and now a feature-length study of that phenomenon is joining the film for its U.S. disc debut.

Fango got the scoop from Severin Films that BAN THE SADIST VIDEOS, from PLAGUE TOWN and THEATRE BIZARRE filmmaker David Gregory, will have its Stateside uncut U.S. DVDebut as a bonus disc with the HOUSE Blu-ray/DVD combo pack when it’s released September 10. A fascinating account of the horrors of British censorship, the two-part BAN THE SADIST VIDEOS was made in 2006 and covers the period in the early ’80s when fright films and other violent flicks came under fire from politicians and the press, leading to censorship and the arrests of store owners under charges of obscenity. HOUSE, released in the UK as EXPOSÉ, was one of the final 39 condemned movies (and the only one actually made in Britain), and is still banned in its uncut form there. “There are a couple of really good VHS-era documentaries doing the rounds in the U.S. right now,” Gregory says, “but growing up in England, we had a very different experience of serious censorial oppression. We thought it might be time to bring out our doc on the period in the U.S.

“HOUSE has proved one of the most difficult discs we’ve ever produced due to severely damaged film elements,” continues Gregory, who runs Severin with Carl Daft. “The master is still not perfect, but it’s the only way to see the film uncut in its original aspect ratio. We wanted to give Severin fans something extra to compensate for the imperfect presentation of the feature, and the fact that it has taken so long to get the disc to market. Including what we consider one of our best documentaries to date, which until now has only been released in the UK, seemed like the way to go. We had considered canceling the title on many occasions because it was such a dire situation, but we just couldn’t give up on it and we have it to where it’s now acceptable to us, and hopefully to our customers. We also have another very exciting nasties release on the horizon, so we want to raise some awareness in the U.S. of that grim time for horror fans in the UK.”

HOUSE ON STRAW HILL and BRUTAL NIGHTS OF LINDA are now both in replication. Street date is 10/8, just to be on the safe side. Glad to see they're both finally making it out!
