I may bite on a few, but sure as shit won't bother upgrading Taxi Driver or Glory or anything else down the line that has a fine BD already.

I think film is still 2 million times the resolution of BD or some fucking retarded shit. I was under the same impression it was very close to film, but early talk differs greatly in the face of new shit. Now I'm supposed to believe BD is shit and I need 4K, they need to eat a dick!

I'm in the midst of unpacking an LG 84 inch 4K set that was a special order from a loyal customer. The thing is fracking ridiculous. Nobody needs a set this big. Just buy a projector!

Looks like some of those first releases come with the purchase of the Sony FMP-X1 4K Media Player.

$699 Gets you the player & 10 Blu's

Bad Teacher, Battle: Los Angeles, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Salt, The Karate Kid (2010), Taxi Driver, That's My Boy, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Other Guys, and Total Recall (2012)

The FMP-X1 4K Media Player is totally round. It looks cool, but could be an odd fit on a shelf or tight space imo.

Also those same movies are being pre-loaded on Sony's 4K media server that coming out in the future.

This is a waste of time and it's going to confuse customers even more who haven't yet jumped on Blu, or even those who have for that matter. So it's 4k, but not really because it's downgraded to a 1080p Bluray. Most of these already came from 4k transfers, the only ones that may see an improvement are Glory, Spider-Man, and Ghostbusters. Glory apparently already looks great and I believe Spider-Man was shot in 2k so it would just be an uprez. Which means the only release that will really be worth a damn is Ghostbusters, and that's if they even do it right. Of course these releases won't include any extras so you'll still have to keep your Blurays, and in the case of Ghostbusters, DVD as well since it has some missing extras.

Sony is the worst! They love to rush out this kind of stuff and then abandon it as soon as possible. They put out Bluray and then decided to stop releasing any of their catalog titles because there is apparently no money in it, yet every other company seems to be doing well from Bluray sales. How about they focus on releasing more of their titles on Bluray instead of selling them to companies like Twilight Time who only release them in a limited run for a large chunk of cash? Are their residues from Bluray discs dying down that they feel the need to rush out a new format that no one other then Donald Trump is asking for or can afford?

I would also want to give them the finger, but please, letīs go back to DVD. While Iīm from the good old days of VHS, DVD is more practical.

Too much definition hurts my eyes because of the artificial look of things!

I saw a comparision of the new Ghostbusters 4k transfer, and it seems like they have gone back to the original look, with less contrast and color boosting.

Edit:
I saw that the review was posted above, so I guess you already knew this by now

This is the only one of these "4K" remasters I feel is worth upgrading though.

These "4K mastered" releases are really not much different than seeing a DVD sourced from an "HD master" — it's going to be downconverted anyway, and most people aren't going to see that much of a difference... it's "Superbit" all over again.

Here's a few comparisons between the Ghostbusters Blu-rays: http://ghostbustersnews.com/2013/05/...rs-4k-blu-ray/

Well now hold on a minute. There really was a noticeable leap in quality when they started using HD masters to make DVDs. Next I'm going to hear that for "old movies" 1080p isn't much better then 480i upconverted on most people's set ups so we shouldn't bother with Blu-ray either.

What people are confusing here is the marketing with the product. Let's not lose sight of what the actual product is. Sony is giving us bigger better transfers of films like Ghostbusters and Raimi's Spider-Man. I'm very happy that they've re-did the transfer on Ghostbusters. I couldn't care less if there's a "4K' banner along the top of that improved transfer or not. An improved transfer is an improved transfer. That they went the Superbit route is all the better since I own all these extras twice over already, and more.

We want bigger better transfers. All day long I read on here people bitching for bigger better transfers. Why is everyone so quick to shit all over these bigger better transfers?

Ghostbusters was never an attractive looking film. The old blu-ray will do me just fine.
