Defunct DVD Companies?

From the top off my head:

Simitar - enjoyed their releases.
Silver Nitrate - they are still active as a production company.
Trimark - they became Artisan/Lionsgate but I still like me those original Trimark discs.
Republic Pictures ("Freeway")
PolyGram ("Clay Pigeons")
USA Films ("Cherry Falls")

I'm surprised Screen Media and York Entertainment are still around.

So is Artisan still around? I was just going to start a thread about the "Watchers" series being out of print and outrageously priced on the second-hand market. (Though I guess New Concorde released the 3rd & 4th movies. Are they still around?) I only ever saw the first two and even though they weren't great I was thinking of watching them again. But I'm not going to pay $50-100 or more for the 2-fer DVD. If Artisan is still around I guess they no longer hold the rights?

I think Artisan got swallowed up into Lions Gate, but may be wrong. I do know I've been price-checking almost every Artisan disc I see at the Hollywood Video closing sale, some are going for a ton of loot. Picked up I've Been Watching You and Summer of Fear so far.

New Corcorde is gone but many are getting re-released through Shout! Factory, of course many others are not. Been on a Corman/Corcorde binge from the sale as well. So far I've grabbed:
The Nest
The Unborn
The Unborn II
Haunting of Morella
Hollywood Boulevard
Saint Jack
Humanoids from the Deep (remake)

Passed on Caged Heat (already en-route from swapadvd) and Death Race 2000 (getting Blu soon) and Piranha 78 (already have, want Blu)

Program Power had a few cool releases, and the worst smelling DVD cases of all time.

Platinum has morphed into Echo Bridge and actually started putting a little effort in, bravo! They used to be FS BB only, now they're doing anamorphic widescreen and features. I still think most of the Platinum titles are oop, only The Wraith and The Gate got re-issued by Lions Gate.

I miss the Brentwood multi-movie DVD sets. It was a great way to see movies you'd never even heard of. When they changed their name to BCI, it even got better. Too bad the company went under...

Now days, Mill Creek has picked up the slack and put out some great stuff (especially since they bought BCI's catalog), though I don't like the fact they lower the bitrates to fit two movies to a single layer DVD.

Barrel Entertainment ("Nekromantik")

I think Subversive Sinema ("The Candy Snatchers") is another one.

Velocity appears to be gone too. They released Slaughterhouse of the Rising Sun. Love that movie.

Elite Entertainment - about as good as defunct if they're actually not yet, since they really have no flagship licensed titles left and haven't released anything of note in years.

Dead Alive Productions - seems to be long defunct.

Digiview Entertainment - seems defunct, and the website is dead. They released some decent $1 discs.

Moonglow DVDs - who only ever released a few DVD releases that I know of.

Top Ten Media - released quite a few New World Pictures releases. Sketchy whether they were licensed or bootleg...but the A/V quality wasn't too bad on many of the discs.

Diamond Entertainment, Gemstone Entertainment and Front Row Entertainment may also be.

Yep, collected releases from both these companies. I especially miss Barrel, their DVDs were excellent.

Agreed, they gave alot of love to films that no one else would even touch. For example, the transfer for Almost Human is one of the best I've ever seen for a 70's movie on DVD.
