Arrow Video vs Other Distributors, Which Edition is Better?

I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread that compared Arrow releases to versions of the same films from distributors like Blue Underground and others. I'd say picture quality and audio and the most important factors of a disc and I've often had to do a lot of digging to find out which version of a film is better.

Start discussing below and I'll add our verdicts to this thread for an easy guide.

Zombie 2 (aka Zombie Flesh Eaters) Arrow vs Blue Underground - Winner = Arrow
(Brighter more vibrant colours)

Deep Red Arrow vs Blue Underground - Draw
(Not a great difference in the transfers but Arrow has a slightly higher bitrate)

City of the Living Dead Arrow vs Blue Underground - Winner = Blue Underground
(less artificial noise)

Black Sunday Arrow vs Kino - Winner = Arrow
(higher bitrate, slightly brighter with more detail)

Dressed to KillArrow vs MGM - Draw
(Arrow has a slightly brighter image but the transfers are too similar to pick a clear winner)

The Funhouse Arrow vs Scream Factory - Draw
(If you're after more extras go with Arrow, transfers a pretty much the same)

Maniac Cop Arrow vs Synapse - Winner = Arrow
(Strangely Synapse release seems to have muted tone to the image, Arrow has a higher average bitrate with a brighter but more natural look)

I am curious about how people think Arrow did with The House By The Cemetery Blu Ray. I know a few other companies have put it out over the years but I want the definitive. I have seen the unboxing of the bluray on Youtube and the contents (Booklet and slipcovers) are nice.

I'm also interested in this release as I've only got the Arrow dvd at the moment so I've been considering upgrading it.

The Arrow Dawn of the Dead Blu-ray trumps all others, though I think the Starz transfer is slightly better. I just wish all three versions were on a blu in 1080p as well as the extras.

I liked the dawn and day of the dead transfers better on the arrow

house by the cemetery blue underground is more detailed if you study the image close

inferno and city of the living dead , I'm sorry, I REALLY didn't notice any major differences in the BU and ARROW

packaging and extras, well, , ARROW blows almost everyone out of the water

Biggest difference is of course "Zombie (Flesh Eaters)" where the Arrow versions clearly wins, by not being DNR:ed and having all the finedetails and natural grain left intact, plus having a colorscheme that is back to the original look, compared to BU boosted colors.

Arrows really upped the ball transfers wise these days since Maniac Cop, Exterminator, ZFE and onwards. They were not onto hands on with the transfers before then and just released the master the italian company gave them.

From the screen caps I've seen Inferno definitely looks different. City of the Living Dead is meant to be pretty identical though.

I have the Arrow BD of The Funhouse. The Shout version has a 5.1 mix as opposed to the 2 channel 1.5mbps DTS track on the Arrow. Does the 5.1 add alot as The Funhouse does rely on surround sound on quite a few Also is this scenes. Also is this stereo DTS track on the Arrow considered as lossless? It does have the same bitrate as a 2 channel LPCM track

it averages at 1509 kbps so I guess shout beats that one, but I decided the arrow was good enough

as for inferno, I saw the screencaps, that's why I bought the BU version as well. The thing is when I was WATCHING it on my home theater set-up it more or less just looked the same. And the arrow version shook my speakers while the BU version was less active. But as with all things this is just my opinion.

And the one I "quoted" was wrong I meant Zombie

Didn't notice any major differences in the BU and ARROW releases of Inferno???

Its like night and day... still the best release would be the Camera Obscura.

Like I said just my opinion. That's what was asked, I didn't see them side by side, just watched them after each other and again my opinion.
