Spider Baby from Arrow 6/24/13

If recent comments are any indication I can see why this release has been overlook here but damn it I like it and on June 24th Arrow will be releasing The Maddest Story Ever Told on Blu-ray.

DVD Beaver has an early review with notes on the extras:
Quote:
New to the package is an affectionate cast and crew panel discussion from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “Film to Film” Festival screening of the film at the Linwood Dunn Theater (a double bill with CARNIVAL OF SOULS) featuring Hill, Washburn, and Redeker. Another welcome addition is the inclusion of Jack Hill’s 1960 UCLA short film THE HOST starring Sid Haig [snip]. It’s an interesting mood piece that – like SPIDER BABY – hints at cannibalism, however the more recently added synth score does cheapen the atmosphere.
Tempting to pick up. Last I heard Dark Sky no longer has any interest in putting older films on Blu-ray. So it could be a long wait for this stateside. So I'm very tempted by Arrow here.

I love it too. I wonder if fans approach it thinking it will be more violent or harder-edged. I remember when I read about it, it sounded like it would be really shocking - maybe even Hills Have Eyes/Texas Chain Saw Massacre intense.

However, as soon as those credits (www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7RT9OGzXL4) began I fell in love and I immediately knew that it wouldn't be anything like I thought. It is more akin to Addams Family than the previous mentioned movies and I love it's morbid peculiar sweetness.

I completely agree about the opening credits. First time I saw it, I was hooked!

I adore everything about this movie. It's really bizarre to see such depravity executed in an almost wholesome way. Simply fantastic!

DVDBeaver's verified it is Region B.

I need to stop putting off getting a region free player w/ PAL conversion.

I just bought a region free player this week. Never got the Dark Sky release, but I still have the 1999 Image dvd. Most likely I will get this new Arrow release.

Anyone interested, here's my review of this one:

http://the-manchester-morgue.blogspo...lu-raydvd.html

I'm not the best writer in the world, my style is more on the gushing fan side as opposed to the more scholarly approach of most sites like Drive-In, Mondo or Beaver, but I've posted several screenshots to at least show off the transfer a bit.

I prefer the "gushing fan side" over the scholarly approach. I'd much rather read a review from an actual genre fan than someone who writes reviews because they're told to. Gives it more credibility. Great review!
