Complete Wicker Man print found!!!

http://thehorrificallyhorrifyinghorr...nt-discovered/

The ongoing search for the original print of The Wicker Man is like a film saga in its own right. Since Studio Canal acquired the rights in 2001 they, along with director Robin Hardy have been searching for the missing footage with varying degrees of nothing to write home about. According to the director Alex Cox the original and only print was buried underneath the M4 motorway.

Rather than dig up the film that had been treated like a Mafia snitch, Studio Canal sought anything they could use. This resulted in a VHS and DVD release using found footage patched to the remaining theatrical release. Hardy and the French company were still not satisfied with ‘The Directors Cut’ version, so the hunt continued.

With a determined push to find a good quality print ready to coincide with the film’s 40th anniversary, they set up a Facebook page and asked fans to help. That seems to have paid dividends. The page posted a video today of Hardy announcing they have in fact found a complete print of his preferred cut. The Abraxas cut has never been screened in the UK or released on Blu-ray in this form. This will also be of great delight to the film’s star Christopher Lee who has longed to see the film restored. Though I think most of his exposition scenes will remain on the cutting room floor, or under orange cones on the M4.

With the mention of this cut being a theatrical anomaly to British fans one can only hope they intend to screen the film during the summer. Look out for the ‘Final Cut’ and check out you local cinemas for a treat many thought would never happen. You never know, with a bit of luck it may even wash away the memories of the Nicholas cage remake from your mind forever.

That's wonderful. There's a space on my blu-ray shelf just waiting for it. Now if they can just find Hitchcock's "The Mountain Eagle. "

So many exciting things happening for us horror fans!!!
I didn't even know there was another cut for Wicker Man.

Now, someone just needs to step up to give Suspiria and Phantasm the blu-ray releases they deserve!

Interesting news. I sold my DVD wooden box set of the film so I'll certainly pick up the next version that comes out.

WOW. So much terrific news for genre fans lately! Sure, there are other films that I still want but I am not going to let this hamper my joy. THIS IS FANTASTIC!

Wow, I really thought this would be a lost cause. I'm curious to find out more about what they've actually found. I'm somewhat dubious of the moniker "Final Cut" but anything they can give us in terms of footage is, simply put, great news.

I can understand the director being interested in this but Studio Canal? Conglomerates don't give a fuck about stuff like this. I'd expect something along the lines of, "oh, great, now he'll want money for a restoration. What's wrong with the DVD that was released 10 years ago??". It's all about money and how NOT to spend it with these big companies.

Is this going to be different from the extended UK version on the anchor bay 2-disc dvd? are there 2 cuts of this film, or is this a third, even more complete version?

That´s cool and everything but will they have time to remastered it since the blu release is about 3 months apart?

On the DVD, the extended version was dubbed the "Director´s Cut", and in his communication, Hardy stated this version will be dubbed the "Final Cut".

There are three variant versions in existence: http://www.steve-p.org/wm/

Studiocanal have announced that the Blu-ray release will feature three versions of the film: “the UK theatrical cut, The Director’s Cut (with seamless branching into extra scenes) and of course The Final Cut.
