Let the Right One In
Pontypool
Repo: The Genetic Opera
The Ruins

These first four are fantastic, in my opinion. Some of the best stuff the genre has produced in the last 10 years. After those four "no question about it" picks, I struggled to pick a 5th one, however. Partially because I haven't seen everything up there by a long shot. I was completely unimpressed by Martyrs...intensity (!!!!! ) with no emotional involvement. blech. I found that, Mirrors, and The Strangers to all be crushingly boring. Saw V isn't getting my vote for anything, either. So I went with...

Midnight Meat Train

Let the Right One In, The Ruins and Pontypool are the only three I really feel comfortable voting for this year.

I would have voted for Deadgirl and others...if they would have made the cut.

I think The Strangers is quite creepy and scary. Definitely one of my favorites.
Mirrors on the other hand I'm not too crazy about. I like it well enough to own it on DVD though.

Just rewatched Martyrs tonight. Easily the best horror film of the year and arguably the decade.

i wish i remembered more of it to have a little back and forth here, but unfortunately i don't. i don't even recognize the quote, although i imagine its from one of the bag-head people. saw it once, and wasn't engaged by it at all.
