I've always liked the film for some reason. It's at least better than the majority of low-budget drivel that comes out nowadays.

If this is the one with Horseshack from Welcome Back, Kotter, it sucked.

Well, you know you are in bad shape when you fall asleep twice during a flick that is so boring that it takes you two nights to get through. Welcome to the viewing treat I call Hellgate.

Problem #1? As previously mentioned, the lead actor and “hero” is none other than actor Ron Palillo a.k.a. the character Arnold Horshack from the TV show Welcome Back, Kotter.

<sigh>

So the story opens in the 50s and follows “teen” Josie who is kidnapped by a motorcycle gang. She returns as ghoul, seducing Palillo’s character and leading Palillo and friends to the ghost town of Hellgate. There is a backstory/subplot about a crystal that shoots lasers that re-animate the dead and a guy that looks Gomez Addams walks around looking creepy…

The only thing worse than watching a film that is inept and lame is watching a film that is inept and lame try to spoof a film that is inept and lame. This movie has the power to put people in a coma.

The big effects scene is a plastic bat on a string. Any action sequence is done in slow-motion in case you might have missed it. The filmmakers make no secret that this flick is garbage and it shows in the final product.

There is no reason to watch this flick. In fact, there is no reason to review it.

Complete waste of film.

Yeah, I watched this about a year ago and it was so dull that I've pretty much forgotten everything about it. It's a pity, cos Horshack's the best.

Only worth it if you get the dbl feature with The Pit (which is great).

I watched the double-feature DVD tonight, and as much as I enjoyed The Pit, I actually enjoyed Hellgate even more! This flick was just 100% cheese, the kind of late 80s garbage I love! There is so much going on here, never a dull moment. Biker gangs, zombie turtles, ghosts, graveyards, zombie towns, explosions, lasers, phantom burlesque dancers, decapitation, cabins, diners, urban legends. This movie has something for everyone.

It would make a better double feature with Demon Wind.

Cool, glad to hear someone else really enjoyed Hellgate.

I wish Demon Wind would get a quality DVD release, it's also a favorite of mine. I already own the old VHS (with the 3-D lenticular cover) and the UK DVD.

How is the picture quality on the UK DVD of "Demon Wind," Katonia? I've seen this on ebay in the past and been tempted but if it's just a VHS rip I'll hold out for something better (or at least cheaper.)

The UK DVD is fullscreen and looks about similar in quality to a newly played VHS tape. I'd say it came sourced from an old video master.

If you have a good VHS copy, I wouldn't really bother.

Thanks, Katatonia. I'll hold out for now even though it's one of my guilty pleasures.
