I've seen The Babadook already. It's a good movie, but the character drama is much more effective than the horror aspect.

The Houses October Built looks great! I love haunted house attractions and it has a House of 1000 Corpses vibe to it.

How can you tell if a movie is going to be good from a trailer?

I second this motion. Such a frustrating movie watching experience.

I agree The Houses that October Built looks like a fun movie. I am also highly interested in the town that dreaded sundown and the babadook. Wish they would come out on DVD this October for some Halloween viewing

So I've seen a bunch of these now. Figured I'd mention a few things.

Extraterrestrial - Not what it appears to be from the trailer. It looks like a big budget Tom Cruise calibre type of epic, but in reality it's more of a b-movie slasher. Which is not to say it's bad, but the trailer is misleading. It just barely works. One you watch for fun.

The Signal - Haven't seen it yet. I heard it sucked, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it myself.

Treehouse - This one I liked a lot. I know I may be in a minority on this one. It's an example of how working on a budget can lead to some refreshing ways to create tension. It's a survival horror done fairly well. It reminded me of the novel Crabbe.

The Houses October Built - I made a thread about how much I loved this one.

Rigor Mortis - Haven't seen it yet, but have it queued up. Going in expectations low from what I hear.

The Babadook - Hmm. It accomplished what it set out to do, but I wouldn't want to have to sit through it again. Some genuinely creepy moments and I like the idea, but man the kid is so fucking annoying.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown - Loved it. I've posted on the thread about this.

I picked up a steelbook copy of this film from Amazon Germany. I figure if someone went through the trouble of coming up with a steelbook it can't be all that bad But, seriously, I'll also reserve judgement until I watch it myself. I think I saw a trailer for it on youtube and remember thinking to myself "this looks good". I guess I'll find out when I receive my copy.
