Let's vote: Yay or nay for Phantasm V: The Lost Tapes of a Tall Man Engaged In Paranormal Activity, Part 1 starring Channing Tatum and Lady Gaga

Yeah, I'm with you. I don't mean to sound like a kvetching phan-boy or anything, but unless this turns out to be a worthy sequel in terms of story, tone, and character, then I would just as soon they leave it well-enough alone. Low-budget is fine - IV was practically no-budget, and it still fits well. But I guess we'll have to wait and see. I don't want to be all doom and gloom, so I'll hold out hope. But more often than not, we usually end up getting burned by projects like this...

It has already been confirmed that it stars the original cast, but there's no harm in beginning to make a transition for future installments. All of this fear of what might be is unfounded for the moment. "Fear is the killer."

I think Children of the Corn is probably dead now.

is that a Dune reference?

I must not fear
Fear is the mind-killer
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.

oh, ok. I guess that makes more sense. I honestly don't remember that line from Phantasm, though. It's been a while since I watched it...

The scene is similar to one in Dune. It's where Mike sticks his hand in the box at the psychic's house.

Honestly I'm just happy to have it. If it sucks, I'll ignore it, just like I do Matrix 2 and 3.

Yeah I have heard that before. Gave them repeat viewings. Hated them more. The first one works great on its own. I just forget about the sequels.

I'll give a Phantasm sequel much more of a chance than other film franchises, as the series' following is all hard-core fans. Not casual fans like F13, Halloween, Nightmare, Hellraiser, et al. Phantasm never got mainstream recognition, it was just a little too weird. So all sequels were labors of love, not so much cashing in on a trend.

Not sure if this will be any good, if it's not then I'll just stick with the first four films. As long as they don't try some crap to pervert the original films, like The Tall Man is really Mike and Jody's father or something.

So how much of "Paranormal Activity" are we going to see in Phantasm V?
Your only contradict yourself by your remarks. Tell me, did Coscarelli shoot any kind of "Paranormal Activity" when he started making movies in 1975?

I'm not contradicting anything - you didn't "get" my comments.

Cautiously optimistic. I don't have a problem with someone new writing and directing it. I mean, we all saw parts II-IV right? You're really clamoring for more of the same of that? I think a new perspective could give the series a much-needed shot in the arm. It's not like anyone wanted George Lucas to write/direct Episode 7, right?
