LEATHERFACE RETURNS! Pearl Harbor director Michael Bay's new low-budget production company developing a remake of the 1974 horror cult classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Original helmer Tobe Hooper's writing a draft with his original cowriter and cameras are expected to roll in the spring. |

I just read about this on the IMDb and was about to post about it... guess you guys are just quicker than me
 Anyway, I personally think it will suck. Hooper has lost it as far as I'm concerned, so this will just blow.

I agree, Hollywood should just leave this alone. It will be Scream on some back road in Texas most likely. Same with the Dawn of the Dead remake. Is nothing sacred?

TCM: The Next Generation was essentially a black comedy remake of the first film - and not many people liked it.

Hmm, after seeing the doco on the Australian TCM spec ed, and seeing that every TCM sequel was stuffed up beyond regognition by the studios, I can't see what good could come of this.
Of course, I would definitely pay to see Brittany Spears getting hacked up with a chainsaw in a trendy remake. |

This sounds like horrible crap. No one, not even Hooper himself, could remake TCM and make it even remotely better or even on par with the original. This idea should be dropped all together and maybe they could actually come up with an original idea for a change.

But the production company that brought you the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series, has intentions of moving horror in a new direction. New Line has reportedly bought the domestic distribution rights to the remake of horror classic, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Michael Bay has been tapped to direct. But the film that will arrive in theatres will not be a repetition of the violence that scared the original audience. At Bay's insistence, the new MASSACRE will keep the blood and gore levels to a minimum. This is no doubt due to BayÕs involvement in a directorÕs committee against violence. It appears that Bay is taking a cue from the goreless, but still scare you out of your seat hits THE SIXTH SENSE, THE OTHERS, and THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. Bay even paid homage to BLAIR WITCH by mimicking its now famous loud footsteps and heavy breathing in a teaser he created to set the wheels in motion for his project. But horror fans shouldn't freak out about this new version of MASSACRE. Bad ideas
Every time Hollywood get this crazy urge to update an older movie I'm off. The argument is always the same; they don't like pace, the clothes, the hairdos, the music, etc., so they remake it to fit the present. They forget however, the feeling of the original and the story they (claim to) like so much in the older version will not be there anymore, it will certainly not be the same. They seem to think if they just change the clothes the magic will somehow cross over to the new version. But why do we call certain movies classics ?. Isn't that because they're popular ?. So why make them again ?. It has never made sense, and it never will so don't bother. I don't think it makes the studios a lot of money either. You either like the original or you don't, and if you don't, watch something else. Unfortunately Hollywood doesn't see it like that.
