Inugami please!

Just saw `Inugami` in fact im having a japanese/korean blast this week with over 5 movies to watch all that ive never heard of!
My second movie this week was Inugami which i have to say was very well directed, with some stunning scenery and camera shots!
although the main bulk of the movie actually nearly bored me to tears!!....i have alot of patience generally with films especially after watching the Korean film ` The Isle`..hehe
Inugami didnt really go anywhere for me and im pretty sure it wont get much better on further viewings, its a shame because everything else about the movie was great, just let down by the plot and the drawn out sequences...my next watch will be `The Record` cat III mayhem so ill keep you guyz posted if any of you like your asian horror!

Do you mean that you liked or dislike " The Isle " ... I thought it was one of the best films of the last couple of years... I'm amased it isn't discussed more on this board

I liked the visual style of `The Isle` and it was pretty horrific, but i have to say it really dragged in places and requires alot of patience..but i would agree that its a good movie!

Slinker, I pretty much feel exactly the same way about Inugami. It's a beautiful movie and the scenes are well-choreographed, the character interactions interesting, but the story is just boring... It reminded me of a dull Picnic at Hanging Rock. Now that's a movie with atmosphere and story.

I recently reviewed Say, Yes and Ring:Virus and found them to be pretty good/average horror films. I'll also probalby be reviewing Visitor Q this month, and I'll probably be making an order for Inagumi, Uzamaki, and Another Heaven.

I only really know Japanese horror films - I would love to hear about other Asian films that are creepy along the lines of Ring, etc.

In Japanese cinema, the most recent film that has impressed me is last year's Kairo (AKA Circuit, or Pulse). It's a movie that has many creepy scenes (some borrowed from Ring) and a few good ideas, though as a whole it falls apart in my opinion. Still very much worth watching. There is a Japanese R2 NTSC DVD with English subtitles.

Someone just wrote into Ain't it Cool News that Miramax might have plans to remake Kairo (Pulse). Wonderful.

I imagine a remake would clean up the story and at least inject some sense into the plot, but at the same time completely eradicate the "creepy" factor and the movie's dark tone and sense of dread. I'd rather have the latter. And can Miramax make a horror film without adding teenagers to it?

This may get the fast track if the Ring remake starts looking to make money. Kairo borrowed heavily from that film.

I've really been wanting to see Kyoshi Kurosawa's Kairo and The Cure for awhile now, but those DVDs are damn expensive, $60 where I've found them.

I saw a very cool Korean movie last week. It's called "Sorum".
If you enjoy slow paced movies (I saw Inugami & I have The Isle on dvd, and I thought Sorum was a lot better than both), get the dvd.
It's a 2 dvd set with several extras, including 3 short-films made by the movie's director (all 3 are in english, since they were filmed in the US while he was at an US college). You can find it at several online stores for about $20.
It's quite a depressing movie, but I really liked it...
