Post Pitch Black Unrated DVD

Did anyone ever find out the difference between the unrated and the 'R' rated version of this film? I have the unrated version, but it seems pretty tame to me. I noticed that THE RELIC, rated 'R', had more violence and bloodshed in it.

The only thing different is the gore, The head bitten off, The girl getting pulled apart, But I don't see why It's unrated there nothing really different from the R version, There are more violent R rated movies than Pitch black unrated D C.

Thanks John Doe. The MPAA is so very inconsistant.

One review I read mentioned a bunch of what they put back in was non-violent character-type stuff. Can't remember where, though.

Could it be "unrated" just because it is longer than the theatrical cut? Maybe it's more of a director's cut type of thing - though the violence is extended.

No, it is unrated simply because that cut of the film was never submitted to the MPAA to be rated. If Disney released a special edition of Bambi with some new footage, they would have to release it UR unless they submitted it to the MPAA for rating. Simple as that...

The additional material is just character development.

Well, that would make sense since the violence is minimal. I was laboring under the delusion that 'unrated' meant violent or sexually explicit content. I neglected to realize it was just the addition of unsubmitted material.

Right. That's what I meant. Cause it was changed without being re-rated. Something like that. Glad I wasn't imagining that character stuff.
