Smile Jack Frost 2

Ok, Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without Jack Frost. Yes, it's a bad movie full of bad jokes, no snow, bad fx, but somehow that all works together to produce something I get a big laugh out of. I think the words "mutant killer snowman" are just somehow inherently hilarious.

So I was thrilled when I heard about the sequel. I pre-ordered it, and only just got it yesterday (this could become a future express.com rant).

Well, it's not as good as the first, but it's still fun. The jokes aren't quite as horrid, but the last half of the movie makes up for it. I'm also happy to say that there is quite a bit more gore than in the first one. A drawback, though, is the picture quality. It looked fuzzy and the skin tones were sometimes a little strange (but the red & greens looked alright). The fuzziness is due, as I learned from the commentary, to the fact that it was shot on Hi-def video. The director was proud that it looked like film, but as I yelled at the screen, "NO IT DOESN'T!!!"

But in spite a few problems, I now have a new Christmas tradition: Jack Frost and Jack Frost 2

The first few kills on the island were great, but after a while, every death seemed to be from icicle-impaling, which got old fairly quickly.

I also thought too much time was spent on those awful snowball-things. I'd be surprised if snowman-Jack himself spent much more than 5 minutes total on-screen. The Jack Frost suit also looked worse than the original, and considering how the first looked... The acting, unbelievably, was even worse too.

I'm a pretty big fan of the original, which out of 200 discs is the one movie everyone wants to see whenever anyone comes over and first takes a look at my DVD collection. I thought the sequel was okay, but I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the original. I probably set my sights way too high.

I didn't find that the image was fuzzy, but it had that distinctive 'shot-on-video' look which I tend to strongly dislike.

Of course the REAL reason JACK FROST is a classic is seeing SHANNON ELIZABETH get raped to death by frosty's carrot penius! Yes, as she gets her you know what mangled while frosty keeps humping into to her with that deadly shape object! WOW! Sure beats anything she did in AMERICAN PIE! LOL!

Actually another interesting x-mas movie that just came out on DVD CHRISTMAS EVIL, transfer isnt great, but a good oldie, and intereting commentary track (didnt know the lead, Brandon MAggot is Fiona Apples DAD!!??)

I heard from a distributor that SIMITAR and UNAPIX have gone out of business, and that both Jack Frost and Jack Frost 2 (yes, the one that just came out) are now out of print.

Guess I'll pick these up, but it's unlikely they'll go up in value that much as they're by no means horror classics.

Unhappy

Unapix going out of business is sad news. Ok, so the Jack Frost movies aren't fine art, but I was looking forward to a Jack Frost 3. (I'm easily amused )

And does anyone know about the status Unapix's Ed Gein project? I guess that's shelved now.

WHAAAT!?! Unipix was doing the Gein movie? Urgghhh... that sucks. I was looking forward to that one. It had the potential to be the feelgood movie of the year! Damn.

As I understand it, there were two Ed Gein movies in the making. Unapix is/was doing one and OFG is doing the other. The OFG one is apparently finished and the Unapix one will now probably never be made/finished. But at least we'll have one feelgood movie this summer.
