New Jean Rollin

According to Image's website, they will be releasing the Jean Rollin action film Sidewalks of Bangkok on 8-27-02. I've personally never seen this movie, but I'll buy anything that Jean Rollin makes, and I've been looking forward to seeing this one for quite some time.

That leaves 3 more Jean Rollin titles that Image owns that I know of. The Nude Vampire, Lost in New York, and The Iron Cross. Hopefully we'll see those as well in the upcoming months.

What're these like? Can you give me a rundown? If not, that's cool, I was just curious. Loved GRAPES OF DEATH and liked the LIVING DEAD GIRL a lot (review at Euro Horror DVDs ), but still relatively new to Rollin. Looks to be my kinda director though. I've been meaning to order FASCINATION...

I think you mean "the Iron Rose" instead of "Iron Cross". Some consider this title to be his most personal work. The best movie from Rollin is "Grapes of Death" imo. I have seen a lot of his horror movies and I found almost always some positive elements in it, but also some disappointing parts. (except in Grapes...)

Oops. Anyway, the more Rollin on DVD the better. So long as everything comes out like it is supposed to, we should have 13 Rollin titles on US DVD by the end of August, who would have ever thunk it. (14 if you count Emanuell 6, but who does).

That doesn't surprise me really. I don't know what the OAR for Sidewalks of Bankok is either, but pretty much every Image Rollin title is barebones. Some of them have kinda cruddy photo galleries. But on the Image discs, they usually are only movie stills anyway. And I just watched the movie, I could care about those.

I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure that Redemption, not Image, should be criticized for any problems with this release. Considering their past records, I would assume that Redemption will continue producing these discs with OAR transfers and therefore that this film was shot full frame.

Don't get me wrong, I personally think having beautiful quality transfers of Jean Rollin movies is more than enough of an extra for me.

According to Fangoria's website, Image should be putting out The Nude Vampire sometime this year. All I know is, I'll be there.
