The Mothman Prophecies
Does anyone know if a better DVD is going to be released in the future. I liked the movie but the disc is lacking. I don't want to get burned, like with Blue Velvet.

I thought this movie looked so goddamn lame, but my friends insist that its pretty creepy. The only creepy thing about it I thought was Richard Gere being in it. I doubt they'll do another edition of this, but you can find it cheap, so maybe I'll have to pick it up.

I must side with KillerCannabis....I also had some workmates hype up how scary the film was to me, so I took the wife to see it. I must say that I was quite letdown. It wasn't a bad film, but I'm in no hurry to own it.

I absolutely love this film! It is the second best film to be released so far in 2002 in my opinion, and it captures a lot (but not all) of the aspects of the Mothman legend perfectly! Great, great, great film! I heard that they are planning a SE rerelease, which really pisses me off, because they should make this fucking release the SE!
Columbia seems to do this a lot.

Thanks Cujo108. I thought that this film portrayed the creepiness around the Mothman legend well. Hopefully the SE comes out soon. I'd like to see the documentary about the Mothman included... that would be cool.

I thought it was decent. It was kind of like a long X-Files episode but not as good. Worth a rental and that's it.

Got a chance to see this film for the first time late last night and have to say that I was pretty impressed. Though not one of the scariest films of all time, I still thought it was pretty effective in a low key manner. A nice subtle film with an eerie atmosphere that deliberately builds it's chills and tension. Gere was just fine in the lead and the cast of characters that made up the spooky town of Point Pleasant, WV were odd enough to give the film a real off kilter feel. I really enjoyed the direction of Mark Pellington who employed some really nice camera touches that added to the events taking place onscreen. I might have to eventually seek out the DVD for this as I watched the movie on pay per view and it wasn't presented in widescreen. Anyway, a pretty effective and different kind of film that I really enjoyed.

When Columbia first announced the DVD it was supposed to be a special edition (audio commentary, deleted scenes ect.) but they pulled the plug a few days later.
Anyways, I thought this film was great. Nice, creepy atmosphere and yes, Richard Gere gave a fine performance.

I doubt very much Columbia would invest in another Mothman disc...

Much like The Others, I think this movie was aided much by seeing it in the theaters. In the comfort of home, without the large screen and overpowering sound effects, it looses something.
I was another person who thought this movie looked like complete ass, but a buddy of mine convinced me to see it after taking his girlfriend to see it, and I fell in love with it. Bought it at BB the day it was released. Funny you would mention it being a "Long X-Files Episode". I hyped this film up quite a bit to my parents, and when I let them borrow the DVD, they both were very dissapointed, and thats exactly what my mother said. crank |

I had high hopes, being a native West Virginian the subject matter does get people upset around here (my best friend is a native of Parkersburg, and he said he cried at the ending of this film) so I was excited to see this film...
...It was lame. |

The scariest film of the year! I loved this film! Can't wait for the R2 DVD, which will have more extras than the R1 DVD!
I loved the look of this film and the style. Mark Pellington is definately someone to watch - this and Arlington Road are both terrific films.

While I don't find it the scariest film of the year,I was impressed with Mothman. I like Pellington's style and I also think he's someone to watch. However he will show us much better films in the future I believe...
