1981
1981 was another great year, too many good movies to list here. So check the "other" option if your fave isn't listed.

Slashers like HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME and THE BURNING are always great fun, but I can't deny John Landis' seminal werewolf film. AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON gets my vote.

An American Werewolf In London!
BTW, Happy Birthday To Me is coming on one of the Encore channels this week. I think it may be the mystery channel! |

Friday the 13th Part 2 is probably my favorite in the series, so it deserves my vote. But any other film on the list is also deserving.
Thanks for including Final Exam helly.

Friday 4 and 2 are remarkably close for the best of the series crown. I really like Part 2 because I think Jason looks extremely creepy with the bag over his head and his shack. It is a very dark film and the campfire scene serves as a nice parallel to the spooky story roots the plot has. The young cast is probably the best bunch of campers in the series, and Amy Steel makes a great damsel in distress. The opening murder sequence of Adrienne King was excellent and somewhat unexpected, like Marion Crane's murder in Psycho. There is some great editing in the film as well (ie. when the dog gets killed and the next shot is of a barbeque frying hot dogs).
It isn't high art, that is for sure, but there is lots to admire about it.

Excellent year, many favorites. "Wolfen", "Scanners", "The Beyond", "The Entity" and "Friday 2" stand out. -So I'm voting for the one that stands out the most; AAWIL.

Definitely a great year (for the most part, some real duds also) that is a given. Having said that, I had to vote for what is possibly the greatest film ever made, The Beyond. It is a shame so many people and horror fans can't see what an amazing film The Beyond truly is. The film is dream-like, with so many fantastic visuals. I really think most people don't quite get it, or Fulci for that matter.
I would have thought more people on here would have voted for The Beyond, amazing how things turn out. I am embarassed that The Beyond is even mentioned with some of the stinkers up there. |

J your right. THE BEYOND is a great film; I love it and its one of my all-time faves right after POSSESSION, which I think is criminally overlooked thus very underrated and therefore got my vote.
