Angry Scanners remake

From creature-corner.com:

Artisan is going to remake David Cronenberg’s ‘Scanners’, to bring the concept of the film to “new audiences”.
Artisan has announced that instead of running with a ‘Scanners’ television series, they’ve agreed – with the rights holders Pierre David and Rene Malo – that a full-blown remake is in order with “amped-up paranoia” and new FX. Though a creative team hasn’t been brought in, Clark Peterson (‘The Watcher’, ‘Wishmaster’) is set to produce.

Can nobody stop this remake-madness???

I couldn't bear to watch the head exploding sequence done in CGI, it would be a travesty!

I guess that Artisan can't think of any original ideas so they have to rape classic films. What a bunch of idiots. There is no respect for good filmmaking anymore.

There is, check out the indie films at your local film festivals or something. Hollywood is crap, and only care for the $$$.

Great. Another remake. I think I'd die if someone actually came up with an ORIGINAL idea. Thats how so many horror films came to be "classics". How many great horror films can you think of that were remakes of a great film? Only one comes to mind....... Savini's "Night of the Living Dead". And no one can out do that.

Ain't that the truth...
Old school gore effects were the best. CGI couldn't touch that type of artistry. Hell, they can't even make a drop of blood look realistic.

As for this remake business, nothing's sacred. The "horror classicks" will stand the test of time and their lifeless remakes will dust away on a shelf.
THE THING, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS '78, & THE FLY are good examples of remakes that work.

Angry

You can't make Scanners any better than it already is. The Idea of Revok being played by anyone else but Michael Ironside is appalling.

Some CGI works in context with on screen death though, IMHO the decapitations in sleepy hollow were superb.
Saying that Stan Winstons exploding head is a work of pure abatoir artistry and those meaty chunks Just wouldn't be as real.

Shit, just shot down my own point.

True... SCANNERS certainly don't need a remake. As someone stated earlier in the thread, why don't they come up with an original idea... I'm really waiting for a new breakthrough in the horror business... I thought that JEEPERS CREEPERS should be the beginning of something new... but no, of course not. Until something radical happens I'll stick to my 70's giallos...

I must agree with those 3 movies being great remakes aside from Savini's NotLD.

Stan Winston, to the best of my knowledge, wasn't involved in Scanners. Sorry to be picky!

Agreed. It's difficult to envisage a thriller coming along thesedays that would rival the finer examples from the golden era of the giallo....

I'm apprehensive at the thought of a Scanners remake. The original had a unique atmosphere and should be left as an example of a low-budget classic.

Didn't Craig Reardon do the makeup for Scanners?
