DVDFile reports...
Quote:
How long have we waited for a proper release of this? How long have we been tormented that there is a Candian release, but that it's an unworthy dvd? If true, this just isn't right - at all. Dave, we got any Buena Vista reps that we can get a confirmation from, and maybe voice our displeasure to? Quote:

This is terrible news! I really love this movie, and we can't get a good release on DVD, what the hell is wrong with these people?

...Paff clutches his widescreen laserdisc with full Pro-Logic surround like it's a teddy bear...

For what it's worth, DVDEmpire, Digital Eyes, DVDPlanet, CDUniverse, and DeepDiscountDVD ALL list this as 2.35:1 anamorphic. This just may be a false alarm. I sure hope so.

This makes me quite upset. I haven't seen this film yet, so I Tivo'd it a while back. I then decided to wait to see it when the DVD came out to get a widescreen version. Now that isn't going to happen. I guess Tivo will get me through until widescreen is released.

I do think the "false alarm" theory is quite valid.
Someone possibly posted the wrong specs, the specs of the old version, and that typo has spread around the Internet faster than a social disease (remember, it's only ONE site saying this so far).

I agree with Paff and Hellbilly, this is probably a false alarm. Hasn't Disney only been doing family titles in P&S? I'd sit tight for a few days and see what happens.

I was going to sell my Canadian P&S DVD copy soon, but now I will hold on to it until this matter is cleared up. If the U.S. version is P&S I won't buy it.
I don't usually buy P&S DVDs, but I wanted to see it badly and I couldn't find it in any rental stores and it only cost about $10, so fuck it. |

Sounds like another one of DVDfile's false alarms to me.

I had no idea DVDFile was so notorious for their false alarms (I hardly ever go there). I've seen this mentioned at at least two other sites since I posted this. I first saw the news at HTF, and went to DVDFile to verify that they were reporting the news, and it was certainly there - still is in fact. But if I had known of their history, I wouldn't have been so quick to spread the word. I feel dumb. Like a big dummy.
![]() If it is false, well, at least all this hype created a little more buzz for the title. There's something at least. |

Yep, I agree, rhett - I think DVD File are...
...crying, "Wolf" again...
Given Pete Jackson's colossal following since Lord of the Rings, I don't think Disney are daft enough to release a P&S version of this respected movie. |

I hope this is a false one. I'd hate to see this movie for the first time in P&S. As far as I'm concerned NOTHING should ever be released in P&S, ever!

Anyone remember last year (post 9/11) when DVDFile reported that the upcoming "Escape From New York" Special Edition DVD would feature a new cut that had removed/CGI-altered all scenes with the World Trade Center. Here's what they posted: "The upcoming reedit, which was done without Carpenter's involvement, changes the circumstances of the U.S. President arrival in the now prison once known as New York City. A new conversation between Rehme (Tom Atkins) with a US General has been dubbed in, explaining that Air Force One has experienced mechanical failure and is off course, complete with CGI'd mouth movements! After suggesting the president use the emergency shuffle, the President (Donald Pleasance) climbs aboard with the briefcase handcuffed to his wrist as in the original film. But a new digital shot has been added of the shuttle falling down to the New York streets, with the original shot of the plane striking the skyscraper now excised." |
