Home Theatre Forum, DVD Authority, and DVD Savant also have reviews for Last House.

In one of the reviews I read, it stated that you can play the film with a 40 second intro from Craven. During that intro, Craven says that the film is being presented on the DVD for the first time ever complete and uncut.

Cool. I love it when directors do intros to their films on DVD. It feels like they were more involved in making the disc, which is always a plus. I hope BB puts this one out early, cause I want it now.

Though laced with SPOILERS, the "LHOTL" review at dvdsavant is most interesting. Regarding the on again, off again question as to whether or not the upcoming MGM release is complete and uncut as Craven states in the intro, the review states as follows:
"Although this new DVD doesn't appear to be the uncut, full length Canadian release, it's shocks are said to be intact". It goes on to further say: "The story on the version of Last House on the DVD, from Savant's most reliable source. By official record, MGM's cut is 7 minutes short, and when it hits the street fans will surely post messages saying it lacks some shot from the Japanese laser, or from a graymarket Belgian tape,etc.. Those fans will be the ultimate experts, as Craven himself says he doesn't remember any more. For this new transfer, MGM checked all of its elements, and all were cut. The original neg is missing. David Szulkin informed them that a German company had a 35mm I.N. of the uncut version, and MGM, with possible help from Sean Cunningham, negotiated to get access. For the moment, this is the most complete version known to the major restorers, including ultra-expert David Szulkin". What do you guys think? |

There's a new feature called 'Forbidden Footage' that promises to hold a lot of the "never-before-seen" footage, but all that is shown is them talking about the really ultra violent scenes they put in the cutting room floor.

"Dosen't appear?" In other words, they don't know for sure.
If they can't point out specific examples of missing footage, I'd be more inclined to just wait and see, and take what that reviewer states with a grain of salt. |

If Wes Craven says this is the uncut print, then I will certainly believe him. I've seen the film various times on some Canadian VHS releases and most were so dark and soft that it was tough to make out what was going on, so this DVD should be a blessing as far as presentation goes. I can't wait for this disc.

According to some though, Craven doesn't actually say it's uncut but instead says that it must be because he simply doesn't remember anymore footage. This is quite interesting.

I just have to chime in and say how excited I am to see this. I never have before (I know, I know, so shoot me) and it looks like something I'll love. I dont care if some footage is missing here and there, I just want it. And extra footage is on the disc too, so it should matter less. Glad to see it got a great release AND an ultra-low MSRP.

Having seen MGM's new print, I can say it's as long as any other "uncut" print currently making the rounds - which include the Japanese and Dutch DVDs. There's even some bonus gore in the outtakes section. All for $10.

I read in Fangoria magazine in an issue in 1992 that it is illegal to show that footage or even talk about it. In other words it will never be known what they taken out of this film.

illegal to show? i doubt that. unless it's a snuff film, i don't see how it'd be illegal to show a movie clip.
