I think the best film was The Shining but the best adaptation was Carrie, followed by Pet Cemetery. (vote went to Carrie)

BTW, where the hell is Pet Cemetery?

Stand By Me
The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile

All his best book-to-film adaptations, although I'd agree that The Body is the only one out of the above three that has horror elements (even if The Green Mile has some surprisingly supernatural elements).

My vote went to Misery, although I believe The Shining is the best film out of the choices. But even King has said that The Shining isn't a great adaptation of his work--although he digs the film.

I still have yet to read "The Dark Half" or "Needful Things" or "Misery" yet, so I am not sure how well the films are adapted.
I went with CHRISTINE. From what I recall, it followed pretty closely to the book and had that great "John Carpenter feeling" his films had back in the 80s.
CUJO would have taken the prize if it weren't for the altered ending, which surprised and moved me after catching the cinematic last frame while flipping channels. I was totally unprepared. I loved it.

Dead Zone. Cronenberg + King + Walken = Gold.

Creepshow's actually my favorite movie of the choices but it's not really an adaptation of a previous King work.

Talking about The Dead Zone. I've had the DVD for several months now, still wrapped in plastic, and I've kind of been saving it for until after I read the book. However, the book appears to be the only King novel completely unavailable in Iceland, so I ordered it from Amazon. But I'm dying to see the film now ... I can't really wait!

Should I wait or should I just watch the film and read the book later?

I went with Carrie as the best adaptaion, though My Favourites are The Shinning, Christine, Carrie and the Shawshank Redemption.

also since this is for the best adaptation Sleepwalkers (what a horrible film!!!) was writen for the screen therefor was not an adaptation, as with creepshow (which was Great!).

I would recommend reading the book first--that's what I did. I enjoyed both, although the few things that they had to leave out of the film were missed.

Jesus, talk about hard choices! Being a John Carpenter fan I went with "Christine".

Honestly, if you asked me this same question again, I'd probably come up with a different answer.
