Anchor Bay Amaray-Cases ???

Some of the latest Anchor Bay DVD-Releases that I purchased(The 4th Man,Death and the Compass,the House by the Cementery), are
printed with Information and Pictures on the Inside of their Cover Sleeves!
Why put Anchor Bay her Cover Sleeves not
in Transparent Amaray Keep Cases?

Probably because the Alpha cases are cheaper than Amaray. The Alpha things are not of the best quality anyway and trying to get the DVD out is not as easy as with Amaray, I actually damaged my "Duckling" disc that way and since then I repack my AB titles in better cases. But even in transparent Amarays the text on the cover backside wouldn´t be readable too well.

I actually prefer the Alphas. I've never had a disc come loose during shipping with an Alpha, but it's a frequent (though not too frequent) headache with Amarays.

True, I had that once a DVD was jumping around freely in an Amaray case when it arrived. I had both, Alpha and Amaray damaging one of my discs. Let´s say Alphas are better for shipping, but when the DVD arrived Amarays are a more quality way to store and use the disc

sorry to sound ignorant, but what are the differences of these cases. I've never heard of "alpha" before. The only terms i know are keepcase and "snapper" can someone please enlighten me without making me feel like too much of a moron?

On a totally different note, AB has done this inside-of-the-cover thing for a while. Halloween 5 (nontin) does it, so does the Beyond (nontin) I think.

They say on the back in real tiny letters "see other side for production notes" or something.

I wish they'd put the stuff on an insert, but it's probably a money thing.

The Alpha/Amaray thing used to confuse me as well. Here goes:

Alpha and Amaray are the two main types of non-snapper keepcases. (there's others, these are the two most common). The Alpha (you will notice it's stamped "Alpha" where the disc sits) has the big "scoop" on top. You PINCH the spindle, and pull the disc off from the "scoop"

The Amaray has 4 grabbing points on the edge of the disc. You PUSH down on the spindle, and grab an edge.

Alphas seem to hold the disc in better, but can be difficult to remove. Best way to do it is to put the case on a hard surface, pinch with one hand, remove with the other. If you try to do it one handed you tend to bend the disc.

Amarays are much easier, but seem less reliable at holding the disc in.

When I first got my Halloween 5 disc, I thought the production notes on the reverse side of the cover art was cool. I mean, you are only going to look at it once, so there is no real hassle.
