3-D DVD system

Well, I got a chance to demo the 3-D DVD setup.

2 words: Forget it

You put on the glasses and anytime there was a 3-D effect, the picture immediately began severe flickering. Nothing comes in 3-D, but you do get a wicked headache. Now, the salesman said it looks better with the lights off (this was on the floor of an electronics store), but this just looks like really bad technology.

Sure, I'd like to see 3-D versions of Andy Warhol's Frankenstein and other movies to come to home video, but not like this.

Anyone considering buying this should try to get a demo first, or at least carefully review the money back guarantee.

Why can't regular DVDs play 3-D stuff? I've seen 3-D television and stuff...

I don't get any flickering at all on my 3-D system day or night. And the images are deffinately 3 dimensional. Maybe these cheapo field sequential 3-D systems that come with dvd sets are just not up to par. Or perhaps the movies on the discs themselves aren't encoded properly. Did the store display have the imax discs or the low budget horror ones? And, was the system hooked up to a 16x9 or a rear projection tv? I've heard both sometimes have a flickering problem.

I have the system and it works fine. I don't have a projection TV and left the lights off. Most people I demoed the discs were blown away (not to mention the grainy field-sequential FRIDAY THE 13th PART 3 in 3-D bootleg I have).

Not sure if there was a problem with the system or the enviroment, but the presentation is not the downside of the system. It's the piss poor titles available so far.

And with studios ignoring the system, the problem is not going to be resolved anytime soon. So I wouldn't buy it in hopes of getting JAWS 3-D or Andy Warhol's FRANKENSTEIN anytime soon!

The ONLY reason I'd want a 3-D system is to watch F13th part 3 in 3-D.

I'll have to find the actual name of the system I tried, because as Gunner and Evileye have posted, the system the use works fine. I'm sure we're talking about something different, 'cause there's no way in hell anyone could say something positive about the one I saw this weekend.

Seriously, it's like anytime a 3-D effect came on, it was like someone just turned a strobe light onto the screen.

The Freddy's dead 3d looked good on my 32 inch tube tv. I should try it on my projection screen to see what the 3d looks like.

The system i have (the IMAX/SLINGSHOT) makes the blue/red glasses in the ELM ST. box pale in comparison (although I thought the cheapie THE BUBBLE disc had better blue/red decoding... too bad about the crummy movie) :P

Hey all..

I think that the original post may have been talking about the system from here: razor3d.com. It's a stereoscopic 3D system -- and it's the one that's available at bestbuy as well. The system, if configured/set-up wrong it will flicker. There are many things that come into play that will make it not work. I am sure that the person that said there was no 3D effect was looking at it with the "sync" button switched to the wrong side. There is a "right eye shutter first" and a "left eye shutter first" button that switches between these two modes. Depending on the movie, one setting will absolutely not work, and the other works like a charm.

I speak from experience, because i own this system -- and after about 2 minutes of making sure that it was set-up correctly, it works wonderfully! Its astounding. I watched it in the dark on a 27 inch TV as well as a 62 in TV -- it worked on both. The flickering will appear when you are too close to the screen -- just moving back solved it in my case....

So, this worked for me -- i don't know what else to say... try turning the brightness down on the TV a bit -- that may help..
