Deranged/Motel Hell

A buddy of mine picked up the Deranged/Motel Hell double DVD last night. I've never seen Deranged, and I haven't seen Motel Hell since I was probably 8 or 9. I'm 26 now, so I didn't remember much.

We started off with Deranged. From the back of the box, the movie sounded great. That's not uncommon. If youy've never heard of it, it's about Ed Gein. Overall, I'd say that I enjoyed this movie. The guy playing Ezra (Ed) fit the role pretty well. The movie started off a little slow. I expected there to be some decent gore by the end of the movie, but I was left disappointed. I was hoping they would show some of the stuff that the cops found in his house. Even the new Ed Gein movie showed a few small scenes from inside his house, like the scene with the vagina nailed to the 2x4. I thought the movie could of had a lot better of an ending, but overall I enjoyed it. On a side note, I want that bone club that he has. That thing is sweet!

Motel Hell ended up being a good movie. The movie is about a couple of "farmers" who use humans for meat. I only remembered a few small tidbits from my younger days. I enjoyed just about the entire movie. The one thing that I hated throughout the entire movie was Vincent's fat sister. I had the urge to punch her in the face anytime I saw her. The whole concept of the movie is pretty twisted, but that's the beauty of it. All of the sudden I have the urge for jerkey.. and lots of it. Yum!

This DVD set it *definately* worth the $9.99 (Best Buy) price tag. This set belongs in every horror buffs collection.

that version of deranged you saw is cut

the version to have is the vhs version on the moore video
label there is extra gore in that version, plus a real life
documentary on the real ed gien , which shows grisly
images from some of the crime scene investigations

Yeah, keep in mind that the cuts were small in Deranged, but the cuts that were made nixed some really fucking gnarly gore. Its a very subdued film anyway, I think, and I loathe the DVD for what it is. The atmosphere is still intact, but they just fucked it up.

Haha...I just bought this disc too. I got it for $6 at a used DVD store, can't beat that.

I know Deranged is cut, and I'm pretty PO'd about it, but I've never seen Deranged, and I have this aversion to VHS now...

Now I'm pissed, we spent a whole $10.49 for ours (regularly $14.99, but gotta love that employee discount). We sat down to watch Deranged the other night, but that soon turned into passed out on the couch 30 minutes into the film. I was soooo pooped that night, I don't think I could have stayed awake if a bomb dropped on my house.

Motel Hell is a favorite of mine. When I bought the dvd I mostly bought it for Motel Hell, but I was looking forward to Deranged too with all the talk about it. Well, Deranged kinda dissapointed me actually, and to be honest, I don't think that any extra gore in it would change my mind. It's not a bad movie, but it doesn't seem to have aged well. I still enjoy MH as much as I did when I saw it in theaters years ago. I love the Wolfman Jack cameo. Glory, glory, glory.......

I love this disc. Its a great double feature and so damn cheap it should be in everyone's collection. I was always a fan of Motel Hell and after seeing Deranged for the first time, I'm glad MGM paired these two up to make one great disc.

I hear from some of the folks on this board that "Deranged" is cut. The only version I've actually ever seen is the cut version, so I never noticed. I think "Deranged" is quite the little gem of a film and worth the time and energy put into seeing it.

I love this double feature disc, and "Deranged" looks the best I've ever seen it look.

Let's hope for a 2003 release of "Deathdream"! I'm not holding my breath, but it would make me very happy.

I must admit I was a little disappointed by the DVD quality of "Deranged", I love the movie and I heard the picture was supposed to look real good but it didn't impress me that much. Then again, it didn't cost a dime to make that movie I'm sure, so I guess it looks as good as it can. Who won the Oscar that year, btw ?. It should've gone to Blossom.

I forgot to mention that there are a couple of funny scenes in Deranged like the scene with the cop when Ez gets pulled over and the guy at the bar talking about tits. I laughed my ass off.
