Rosemary's Baby
This film is as brilliant as they come. I like it even more than The Exorcist, which often overshadows it. It is easily one of my favorite films of all time, and I never get tired of rewatching it. The paranoia manipulates the viewer perfectly in this masterpiece. The eerie dream-like sequence where Rosemary is being raped by Satan is one of my favorite scenes in all of horror. The film has an overall dreary and surreal feel to it, and that makes the film much more effective in what it sets out to do. Some people find this film boring, but I say they have no sense of suspense or patience, although this is not a film that requires patience if you ask me. I love absolutely EVERYTHING about this classic. There is absolutely no faults in the entire film if you ask me. It is Polanski's best film easily, and is nothing short of a five star masterpiece! I simply cannot praise this film enough. It is the perfect example of a perfect horror film. Any thoughts on this gem?

I love it. Even though it moves slower than molasses in January, it just sucks you in, that you don't care. It reminds me a lot of the other Polanski/Towne film, Chinatown. Not a hell of a lot happens in that movie either, but it's so good you really don't care.
First time I saw Rosemary, I was dead tired when I put the movie in. As slow as it was, I didn't nod off or get bored for one second. The pace of it manages to lift you off of your couch, and into a New York apartment building in the late 60s. And you never really know if Rosemary is pregnant with Satan's child or if she's just jealous and paranoid. I don't know if I'd call it perfect, but it's damn close...

Am I the only one who feels that this movie hasn't aged that well?

I remember seeing a little bit on the cinematography of Rosemary's Baby on one of the movie channels.
Remember the scene where Ruth Gordon goes into Guy and Rosemary's bedroom to use the phone? Polanski wanted Gordon to be in the center of the doorway. But the cinematographer wanted her offset, so you only saw part of her. Polanski HATED this idea. But when he saw an entire test audience crane their heads to try to see inside the doorway, he knew it was done right. I saw Rosemary's Baby tonight at a local theater. Nice print, though a little misframed, and the final reel had some bad scratches. BUT, I did notice a lot of people moving their heads around during the above-mentioned scene. It's definitely a real good movie. Yeah, a little too 60's but still a classic...

Didn't care for this one as much...
But "Chinatown" is one of my favorite films and I love "Repulsion" as well - I will have to revisit this flick some time. Sometimes it takes a 2nd or 3rd viewing to really appreciate a film.

I didn't care all that much for RB either. I dunno, it just didn't do much for me. I didn't find it scary or anything.

Like I've said in the past: I always give movies a second chance. I owe both FVK and RB a second spin. FVK will be getting one soon.

Actually Dave, just watch Chinatown. If you don't get into Polanski after that one, just quit.

It wasn't the movie's fault, though. I was just tired. I do want to see that one, though. I love JN and I've always heard the movie is great. We shall see.
