Transfer looks awesome.. Amazon has it for re-order for June 28th.. Hope it come out.. Great movie...
I've had it pre-ordered at Amazon for a couple of weeks now. I sure wish Severin would release it on Blu-ray though! The transfer should look really nice though. Severin posted some screengrabs online a long time ago and they looked far better than the flawed VCI transfer.
Yeah, i much rather have the dvd over any blu-ray. fearing it will mkae the transfer too grainy as most blu-ray do. I will take a nice dvd transfer over a over grainy blu-ray anyday . Now, if all films could look like the THING 1982 on blu, we would be in good shape.
Can't tell if this is a joke post or not..... But I can't wait for this release either, the vci release definitely had room for improvement
I don't think I can buy this unless they release a blu-ray. I own the previous DVD, and even though the picture quality there isn't the greatest, I find it pretty difficult to justify upgrading a DVD to another DVD anymore.
I just bought an HDTV three days ago so I too would love to get a blu-ray release. I've been checking Severin's website for the past couple months and they have yet to post what the new special features will be. The VCI release was overly dark and had heavy static in a few scenes. In fact, I bought an old VHS tape of this movie and only kept the DVD for the Max Rosenberg interview. By the way, the region 2 DVD from Anchor Bay isn't any better. It does have a 5.1 track but the static is still there.
But the transfer is wayy beter than the dvd you got. And since there isnt any plans for a blu-ray. this new dvd is it. I mean i cant see a blu-ray looking much better.
Of course a blu-ray would look much better. Just look at the HD clip on this page: http://www.severin-films.com/2011/02/06/clip-of-the-day-bloody-birthday-cake-carnage/ (make sure you click the HD symbol, or else it will only stream in SD) If that doesn´t look like great BD material too you, then return your Blu-Ray player immediately
I will definitely get this new DVD! I was just saying that since I have a new HDTV that I wish it was also getting released on blu-ray. It's about time this movie gets the kind of special edition it deserves.
Yeah, but isnt that clip what the dvd will look like?? I seen screen caps of the new dvd and they look awesome. But i quess anythings better than what we have already of this forgotten chiller..
Nope, that clip is what a blu-ray would have looked like. The DVD will have much less finedetails = much softer. Uploading a HD clip on a release that will only be in SD is like a slap in the face. Oh well, since there is a HD master avalible now, maybe another company like Arrow can use it for a BD release over here in europe.
I'm excited to finally find out what the extras will be. This has been one of my all time favorite slashers since I was a kid. I remember watching this over and over with my cousin when we were young. And no, we're not serial killers now! I used to watch this and House with one cousin and Friday 4, Elm Street 3 and Slumber Party Massace with another. I never could have imagined that years later I'd be posting about them.
WOAH! Are ronnie21 and saint211 the same person?? I think so. Found this existing thread with the exact same thread title: http://horrordvds.com/vb3forum/showthread.php?t=42233 Also, before both of these threads, an existing thread discussing the new DVD already existed: http://horrordvds.com/vb3forum/showthread.php?t=37518&page=3
If anyone wants another opinion on the flick, here's another from OTH. A lot of people seem to like this type of movie, but I've never really got into them. I picked up the Village of the Damned double feature because I figured if anything would change my mind, that one would.
Just to back up the review Boo posted, be aware that the "rent it" rating is due to the film's quality, and not at all reflective of the DVD--if you love this movie, then by all means, pick up the disc because Severin did a bang up job with it. (That said, don't let the "rent it" fool you--it's a pretty good slasher, and if you like those kinds of movies, you'll like Bloody Birthday.)
I will get it.. transfer looks great. best i ever seen. Can't wait to see this again.. alot of nudity in this movie too..
