They've updated the post to reflect that this is "Newly restored in 2K (from a new 4k scan)".
Until they say otherwise, I would assume that it'll be the 99 minute US R-rated cut of the film and not the fully uncut version of the film that was released on German VHS.
Candyman is an all-time top 10 horror film for me, so I'm thrilled to hear about Arrow's release (the existing region 2 blu-ray is pretty lousy). I fully expect them to restore the subbed-out gore shots in the psychiatrist scene, but I'm not holding out hope for the more graphic workprint scene of Helen's restroom encounter.
Candyman is a great example of a highly desirable title that hasn't been treated well in the hi-def age--in other words, NOT Halloween 2 or 3. Shout could learn a thing or two from Arrow. I've been grabbing a lot of Arrow's more obscure slasher releases lately (Blood Rage, The Mutilator, and The Slayer, to name 3). With so many other companies playing it safe with their title choices, it's incredible to see films like that in such high quality. Let's hope they continue to pursue lesser-known titles with the same vigor.
The set looks really nice. I'm definitely down for a copy.
Because all their good releases this year have been UK only. Heathers, Flowers, and now Candyman. Probably Elvira too.
Just get a region B player. My player died a few weeks back now and I was able to easily order an American player off Amazon. If missing out on these releases is a big deal to you then I can't stress going region free enough. It's so inexpensive now, there's no reason not too.
This. It has to be done. In addition to gaining access to a ton of additional discs, you'll also save money. Arrow USA titles never seem to reach attractive price points, but their UK counterparts can be snapped up cheaply through fairly frequent Amazon UK sales.
Me too with the region free. I am going with the hardline stance that it is a must. It's some weak game to go without. It's not just a better meal, it's a better life!
I can watch Arrow titles on my Panasonic player by pressing Top Menu. I have Hellgate (essential), Runaway Train, and a few others. But I'd rather have a version that works on all my players, as well as all future players I will have.
Since Donnie Darko, Hellraiser, The Stuff, etc were eventually re-released in US versions I'm reluctant to buy any of these anymore.
^I do agree with the above to a certain extent. A lot of PAL dvds that I bought back in the day did end up getting North American releases, eventually. But some did not, Laughing Dead anyone? Now multi region players also give another chance to play a file that may be otherwise problematic. And they are cheap enough. Don't have to buy an Oppo. Won't have a chance anymore, anyway. R.I.P.
This is what I usually end up doing. I just had to cancel Scorpion's Tail and Doom Asylum because they're still $28 a piece and they're out in a few days.
I pre-ordered both of those at DD on one of their promo code sales for $17.50 each, and it looks like they both shipped today.
Crap, that's much better, should've thought about that. Oh well, I'll grab them next time a code comes around.
