Mondo Digital reviews Deadbeat at Dawn: http://mondo-digital.com/deadbeat.html
Well it doesn't look too much better just judging from the screen caps. It's a shame as I was expecting a far more noticeable difference. Good to hear it looks much better in motion though. Hoping to have mine in the next week or two.
I think it looks way better. The movie will never look amazing (due to the way it was filmed and the film stock they used) but gone is all that awful scanner noise from the previous release.
Hopefully they can re-do House By the Cemetery as well. That one had the same type of scanner noise issues.
Boy, I love the movie and all, but the only thing that would get me to buy this a third time would be if they discovered a lost print that had an ending that makes sense.
The last release was pretty average looking though. Lots of ugly digital noise.
Finally I can watch the film, without getting my eyeballs raped by the horrible scanner noise
Well, I see it like this.
MacColl's character dies, during the seance, and comes back to life in the grave. Just like the zombies, but still in human form.
So when they kill the Priest at the end, destroying the zombies, she also dies with them, even though it takes longer for the curse to wear off on her. The last shot is from her POV, as she rots away.
Probably not what Fulci meant, but it works for me
^ That's WAY too much depth for a Fulci film...
^Wasn't it that someone dropped a cigarette on the film strip of the last scene when they were editing?
Really? That’s...kind of hilarious.
Are talking about the older Arrow or the Blue Underground blu ray?
Both came from the same LVR scanner noise transfer.
Though the Blue-Underground disc had better colors and compression, but that didn't help much...
I didn’t notice. But then it isn’t a movie I feel the need to revisit all that often. I can’t say for sure if I watched the BU disc more than once.
Yep, and they didn't have the time and money to go back to reshoot the scene
I wonder if we will ever find out, what was supposed to happen in the last shots.
MacColl's character starts to act like she's in pain, or something like that, before it cuts to the final shot of the kid.
They could just have ended the movie, when they are happy to see the kid alive, and then cut to the credits.
But nope, they had to go and make a mess out of it
My UK City of the Living Dead Blu came today. Gorgeous package, as always.
probably already known but there's a Halloween sale that runs on their site until the 18th October
I had heard coffee was spilled on it ,anybody ever said definitively ?
