LOS ANGELES – Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor, the violet-eyed film goddess whose sultry screen life was often upstaged by her stormy personal life, died Wednesday at age 79.

She died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she had been hospitalized for about six weeks.

    So hot in her day.

    RIP

bummer, another icon gone. if it weren't such a mess of a film, i'd say that i felt like watching cleopatra again. as it is, i may just go look for some pictures of her in her cleopatra costume...

I can't say I was a huge fan, as much of the subject matter of her films was not really of interest to me, but very sad to see a screen icon of this caliber pass away.

I was never a fan of her films, but can't deny she was an uber-babe back in her day.

For some reason I thought she was way older than 79.

I thought she was way older too, this is probably because photos and film footage of her in recent years always showed her as somewhat frail and shaky due to her myriad health problems. I would've guessed mid-eighties easily.
MP, that is a great pic I never knew she had that much sex appeal.

Oh yeah, not quite like her latter years. There's a reason folks lusted after her for many a moon - kinda like a sexy/dirty Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island :)

She definitely had some hot stuff when you look at her early catalogue. She was a heartbreaker on and off screen.

Lived life to the full. Style and left a iconic image of youth that will last as long as our species exist.

Some stars like Marilyn Monroe and Liz Taylor are beyond their films, it just is a few scenes from a film or picture, and the media/world do the rest in absorbing it into their imagination and it'll live on forever.

    RIP

Heh, funny how I just watched it last week too.

But yeah, I'm extremely sad to hear of her passing. There have been a few deaths in Hollywood over the past few years that really got to me: Paul Newman in 2008, Dennis Hopper and Tony Curtis last year and now Liz Taylor. Like someone mentioned in an earlier post, these are actors whose personas completely transcend their films. Her work in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof put up against her other films like Giant and A Place in the Sun truly showcase how great an actress she was and how diverse her roles were. She mastered them.

"We've still got one thing on our side. No, two things. Big Daddy dotes on you, Brick. He can't stand Brother Man and Brother Man's wife. That fertility monster, she's downright odious to him, I can tell. That's the second thing we've got on our side. He likes me. The way he looks me up and down and over, he's still got an eye for girls."

My favorite story about her was about the Monty Clift car crash. According to a book on Clift, she demanded to go to the accident when Kevin McCarthy came back to the house. At the wreck, she crawled in the car and when Clift choked on some broken teeth, she pulled them out of his throat so he wouldn't choke to death and stayed with him in the vehicle until medical help arrived. Between that and famous Rock Hudson kiss in the 1980s,if this woman had never made a single film I would still be in awe of her.
