Ordered. Thanks, Z. I'm really enjoying these Blu Rays from retromedia. Who knew?
For the record my boy Katatonia is broke this month. However I can assure everyone on here he ordered this.
Thank You Managment
Nah, I pimped out my bitches and they brought in the $$$.
interested in this, sounds like the uncut scenes are gonna be a bit ropey though, for people who have seen it (an remember it), what's it like, I saw it in the 80's but the UK VHS release that was cut to bits, I used to pretty much switch of when I saw a cut back then, so I technically watched it to the end, but how much attention I paid, well that's another story. As I remember NOTHING from it.
I definitely want Scalps, but I'll probably wait for the 88Films release. I bought Retromedia's Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers blu-ray from Amazon and they sent me a dud. The main menu was botched and the disc started freezing and locking up about an hour in. Ended up returning it. Retromedia is a notoriously cheap label, so it wouldn't surprise me if they are using the cheapest pressing plant available (and sacrificing quality in the process). The HCH experience has me a little weary about buying their blu-rays, especially at $20 each.
That's too bad. I have HCH and Biohazard and both were fantastic. But I get why you'd be wary if you got a dud.
I went with 88films for HCH because of the additional extras. If they are delivering more with their release of Scalps I'll definitely import their edition.
Hmm, wish I'd read this yesterday. haha Oh well, fingers crossed.
I just rewatched Scalps for the first in quite a while on a flight to AZ a couple month ago. Love that flick, I'm all over this Blu.
The blu ray is not leaps and bounds above the old DVD. It is though a little bit better considering it was filmed on cheap 16mm stock. At times the image looks soft and lacks detail. However I doubt the film will ever look any better. In the end it looks and feels like upconverted DVD. Hopefully the rest of you receive your disc and give your thoughts. It looks almost the same as Dead Next Door blu ray. Seems like the guys from this movie gave breif yet cool interviews. As always the women from these old slasher movies are nowhere to be found. I often wonder why so many actresses turn their back on us horror fans.
Anyone interested this is selling for 7.49 pounds on Amazon.co.uk
Whew! Relieved I turned out to actually be quite happy with this.
I'd say at least one or two leaps and bounds.
Both of those images are cropped incorrectly and both are missing either the top or bottom portion. Picture quality looks pretty mediocre to me but to each their own judgement.
It says on the back "restored from the 35mm neg". This could not have been shot on 35, right? It looks out of focus, soft and like 16mm grain. The credits are so soft they are unreadable at times. I enjoyed the film but it could have used some digital artifact/scratch removal. The weakest looking of the Retromedia blus imo.
Well it's a film frame matted to theatrical widescreen, right? The DVD is a bit off, but the blu is 1.85:1.
It was shot on 16, then blown up to 35. (I got that from the audio commentary.)
The transfer is definitely listed incorrectly, as originally shot on 16mm. If it read "restored from a 35mm theatrical print" it'd be accurate to what the actual transfer is. I doubt Fred Olen Ray kept the original 16mm negatives, which would have given a sharper image if scanned...
The Alien Factor "Limited Signed Edition" Blu-ray is up for order on Amazon at $19.99
Ordered. I'm have a huge soft spot for Don Dohler films.
Yes! Been waiting for this one to finally come out. Ordered!
